On July 17, 1918, the anti-Christian Bolshevik Communists horrified the whole world by brutally murdering the whole family of Nicholas Romanov, the Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias. Today, they are canonized as the Holy Royal Passion-Bearers in Russia, a rare and unique status which is similar to martyrdom, and are often called the Holy Royal Martyrs.
Despite being Orthodox, Catholics IRL continues to call for their canonization, as well as canonizations of Constantines I and XIV, as a gesture of goodwill toward our Eastern brothers.
Nicholas Romanov would be the only saint who had a tattoo, which he obtained during a trip to Japan in his youth.
During his reign, Catholic-Russian relations improved greatly, conversion of Russians to Catholicism was legalized, and many churches and monasteries forcibly closed by his predecessors were reopened. | 69 |
