She lived a simple life in solitude and went on three pilgrimages to Rome. She was also friends with Pope St. Leo IX.

But a government decree forced him to return to the Philippines. Five years later, he returned to Japan in disguise. He was able to preach unnoticed for 15 years. These martyrs were massacred on September 2 and 3, 1792 during the anti-Catholic French Revolution. 3 were bishops, 121 were diocesan priests, 44 were religious priests (of whom 24 were Jesuits), 12 were priests from a non-religious society, 5 were deacons, 1 was a seminarian, and 4 were laypersons. They were killed for staying loyal to Christ and to the Pope.
