She’s more popularly known as St. Monica. She was an Algerian Berber widow and was the mother of St. Augustin of Hippo. Her husband treated her badly. She loved him and prayed for him. She also prayed for the conversion of Augustine. Tradition says that creases developed on her face, due to the tears that flowed from her eyes. Her prayers were heard. She is the patron saint of difficult marriages and battered wives.

He was an Italian Passionist priest. His original name was Domenico Barberi. He began his preaching in Italy, but became prominent in England, where he brought many Anglicans to the Catholic faith, including the future St. John Henry Newman. He was appreciated by the Popes Pius X and Leo XIII, who knew him personally when he was nuncio to Brussels. He was a man of vast learning, as seen in his many philosophical and theological works.

He was a Spanish Franciscan priest and martyr. He was a member of the Alcantarine branch of the Franciscans. He was sent as a missionary to the Philippines where he served in Sampaloc and Polo. He later went to Japan to preach the Gospel there. After four years, he was captured for being a Catholic priest. He and his group of 14 Christians were all sentenced to death. He was burned alive while the others were beheaded.

Seven men from the monastery of Gafsa (in what is now Tunisia) who followed the Rule of St. Augustine were arrested after King Huneric banned Christianity. They were St. Bonifatius (deacon),St. Servus and St. Rusticus (subdeacons), their St. Liberatus (abbot) and St. Rogatus, St. Septimus, and St. Maximus (monks). After refusing to renounce their faith, they were beaten to death on a boat. They are not listed in the General Roman Calendar, but are honored today in the Augustinian Calendar.

He was a French Carmelite priest and martyr. During the anti-Catholic French Revolution, he refused the oath in support of a law that decreed the election of bishops and parish priests directly from the people. He was also accused of being part of a group of anti-revolutionary political emigrants. Arrested and sentenced along with other priests and religious, he was forced into exile. He was deported in a prison ship and died on an island.

She was a Spanish nun and founder of the Little Sisters of the Abandoned Elderly. Her original name was Teresa Jornet Ibars. She was the great-niece of Bl. Francisco Palau y Quer. Her dedication to the elderly and the sick was well-known and also the work of her sisters in Spain and later abroad. During the Spanish cholera outbreak, she did not hesitate in helping the patients. She died after suffering from tuberculosis.

He was made to lie on the easel which had his ribs broken before being finally beheaded.

He established hospitals for the sick and blind and houses for reformed prostitutes.
