How to repent for backbiting. ● The majority of scholars have stated that repentance for committing the sin of backbiting is that one refrains from backbiting intending not to repeat it again. ● There is a difference of opinion if whether feeling remorse is required in this case, and also if one should apologize to those who he has backbitten. ● Some scholars stated that it is not necessary for one to ask those whom he has backbitten to forgive him, because if they knew what was said about them, they could be hurt more than if they were not told about it. It is better, they said, that one should praise those whom he has backbitten in audiences in which he has committed the act. ● It is also better if one defends the injured party against any further backbiting, as much as one can, as recompense for his earlier backbiting.

The One Who Does Not Pray Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah [رحمه الله] said: ❝If all the people criticise a man for marrying a woman who is a thief, adultress or she drinks alcohol etc, then it is obligatory that their criticism of marrying a woman who does not pray should be greater and greater and this is an agreement among the scholars. Indeed the woman who does not pray is more evil than a woman who is an adultress, a thief and a woman who drinks alcohol.❞ [Jamia Ar-Rasail, (4/142)]

Observing Your Wife’s Beautiful Manners The Noble Scholar Ibn Sa’adi [رحمه الله] said ❝When a husband reflects over his wife’s beautiful manners and good qualities that he loves about her, and then compares these qualities to those reasons which causes him anger and irritation, perhaps there is some negativity he sees whilst living with her, but it could be that he is focussing on just one or two [negative] things, yet, in reality, those qualities that he loves in her are much greater. Therefore, if the husband was just, then he would overlook her bad points which actually disappear and vanish due to her goodness. In this way companionship continues. As for turning away from good qualities, and only observing shortcomings – even if they are very few – then this is from being unjust, and the husband can hardly be settled with his wife.❞ [Bahjat Al-Qaloob, (Page: 153-154)]

Prayer Attracts Provision Shaykh ul-Islam Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jawzeeyah [رحمه الله] said: ❝Prayer attracts provisions, preserves health, it defends against harm, repels diseases. It strengths the heart and illuminates the face. It gives delight to the soul and removes laziness.❞ [Zaad Al-Maad, (4/304)]

Allah says near the beginning of surah al-Qiyamah [75]: [وَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ] And I swear by the self-critical soul [2] al-Hasan said: I swear by Allah, this is the believer's soul. Whenever you find a believer, he is critical of himself, asking, "What did I intend by what I said? What did intend by eating that? What did I mean by that thought?" Meanwhile, the wicked person does not take himself to account.  [Jaami' li-Ahkam al-Qur'an 19/85]

al-Sha'bi was once asked about an issue, to which he said, "I don't know." Someone said, "Aren't you embarrassed to say, 'I don't know,' when you are the fiqh expert of 'Iraq?" He replied, "The angels weren't embarrassed when they said: [لَا عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا] 'We have no knowledge except for what You have taught us.' [al-Baqarah ayah 32]" [I'lam al-Mawqi'een 4/167-168]

We Ask Allāh To Admit Us Into Jannah. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “Whoever asks Allāh for Paradise 3 times, Paradise says: ‘O Allāh enter him into Paradise’ and whoever seeks protection from Hellfire 3 times, Hellfire says: ‘O Allāh protect him from the Hellfire’.”

Allah says in surah al-Ma'idah: [لَوْلَا يَنْهَاهُمُ الرَّبَّانِيُّونَ وَالْأَحْبَارُ عَن قَوْلِهِمُ الْإِثْمَ وَأَكْلِهِمُ السُّحْتَ ۚ لَبِئْسَ مَا كَانُوا يَصْنَعُونَ] Why don't the scholars and rabbis forbid them from their sinful sayings and unlawful consumption. How evil is what they do! [63] Some of the scholars used to say: There is no ayah in the Qur'an that is more of a rebuke to the scholars than this ayah nor any one more frightful to them. Regarding this ayah, al-Dhahhak said: There is no ayah in the Qur'an more frightful to me than this one, if I were were not to forbid wrong.  Ibn 'Abbaas said: There is no ayah in the Qur'an that is a stronger rebuke that this ayah, and then he recited it.  [Tafsir al-Tabari 10/450]

Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali wrote: When ibn 'Umar and some of the other salaf drank cold water, they would weep and remember the wish of the people of the hellfire, that they would long for cold water but would be prevented from from getting it. They would say to the people of Jannah: [أَفِيضُوا عَلَيْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ أَوْ مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللَّهُ] "Pour some water on us, or some of what Allah has provided you with" [al-A'raaf ayah 50] but they will respond to them by saying: [إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَرَّمَهُمَا عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ] "Allah has forbidden those things for the disbelievers" [al-A'raaf ayah 50] [Tafsir ibn Rajab 2/345]

In surah Ibrahim [14], Allah says: [أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ ضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلًا كَلِمَةً طَيِّبَةً كَشَجَرَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ أَصْلُهَا ثَابِتٌ وَفَرْعُهَا فِي السَّمَاءِ ] Haven't you see how Allah strikes a parable of a good word being like a good tree whose root is firmly planted and whose branches are in the sky? [24] After identifying this "good word" as being the profession of tawheed, ibn al-Qayyim wrote: The point here is that when the statement of tawheed is professed by a believer who -knows its meaning and truth, both in terms of what it affirms and what it negates -lives according to what it entails -upholds this profession with his heart, tongue and limbs Then this profession is what will raise up the actions of this person [to Allah for acceptance].  The root is firmly planted in his heart, and the branches reach up to the sky producing fruits in every season. In surah Aal 'Imran, Allah describes the good-doers in part by saying: [وَلَمْ يُصِرُّوا عَلَىٰ مَا فَعَلُوا] ... and they do not persist in what [sins] they have done ... [135] Sahl ibn 'Abdullah said: The ignorant one is dead, the forgetful one is sleeping, the person sinning is intoxicated, and the persistent sinner is doomed. Persisting in sin is delaying, and delaying is when one says, "I will repent tomorrow." That is a claim he makes to himself, but how can he repent tomorrow when he has no control over tomorrow?! Allah says in surah al-Israa [17]: ‎[وَنُنَزِّلُ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ مَا هُوَ شِفَاءٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۙ وَلَا يَزِيدُ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا خَسَارًا] Through the Qur'an, We send down what is a cure and a rahmah for the believers, but it only increases the wrongdoers in loss. [82] Qatadah said: Whenever someone sits with this Qur'an, he stands up with either an increase or a decrease. Allah - the One who decrees - has decreed that it be a cure and a rahmah for the believers and that it only increases the wrongdoers in loss. [Tafsir al-Baghawi 5/123]

Allah says in surah al-Nisa': ‎[وَاسْأَلُوا اللَّهَ مِن فَضْلِهِ] And ask Allah out of His bounty. (32) Sufyan ibn ‘Uyaynah said, “Allah only orders you to ask so that He may give.” [Tafsir al-Baghawi 2/206]

[30] Someone asked al-Junayd about what can help someone to lower their gaze. He replied, "Knowing that Allah is already looking at you before you looking at whatever you are looking at." Allah concludes surah al-Nahl [16] by saying: [إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوا وَّالَّذِينَ هُم مُّحْسِنُونَ] Allah is with those who have taqwa and those who are the good-doers. [128] A man said to Yunus ibn 'Ubayd, "Advise me."  Yunus said, "I advise you to have taqwa of Allah and to behave with ihsan, for Allah is with those who have taqwa and those who are the good-doers." Allah describes the angels in surah Ghafir [40] by saying: ‎[الَّذِينَ يَحْمِلُونَ الْعَرْشَ وَمَنْ حَوْلَهُ يُسَبِّحُونَ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّهِمْ وَيُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِ وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا] Those who carry the throne and those around it exalt the praises of their Lord, believe in Him and seek forgiveness for those who believe [7] The reciter Khalaf ibn Hisham al-Bazar said: I was once reciting to Sulaym ibn 'Eesaa and when I reached ‎[وَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا] "... and seek forgiveness for those who believe" [Ghafir ayah 7] he started crying and said, "O Khalaf, how Allah honors the believers! Even when he is sleeping on his bed the angels are seeking forgiveness for him!" [Jaami' li-Ahkam al-Qur'an 15/264]

They ask you what has been made lawful for them. Say: Wholesome things have been made lawful for you as well as [game caught by] the hunting animals you have trained just as Allah taught you. [4] This ayah serves to show that a knowledgeable person has a certain virtue that an ignorant person does not have. That is because when a dog learns [to hunt], it has a virtue over other dogs. All the more so with humans; when one acquires knowledge he has a virtue over other humans, especially if he puts what he learns into action. [Jaami' li-Ahkam al-Qur'an 6/42]

Two Good Things Hated By Man The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “Two things are hated by the son of Ādam, he hates death while death is better for a believer than trial (Fitnah) and he hates lack of wealth while lack of wealth has less accountability.”

Allah says in surah al-Ma'idah: [الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ] This day I have perfected your religion for you [3] Under his commentary on this, sheikh 'Abd al-Rahman al-Sa'di wrote: So any fraudster who claims that in order for people to understand their creed and legal rulings they need some forms of knowledge outside of the knowledge contained in the Qur'an and the Sunnah - such as 'ilm al-kalam (speculative theology) or other such things -, then that person is an ignoramus whose claims are patently false.  Such a person is in reality claiming that the religion can only be completed by what he says and what he propagates, which is one of the most egregious forms of wrong and taking people away from knowing Allah and His Messenger.    [Taysir al-Karim al-Rahman pg 219]
