Ibn Abī ad-Dunyā mentioned that Prophet Dāwūd عليه السلام asked Allāh:
“What is the least of your blessing?”
Allāh revealed to him: “O Dāwūd, take a breathe.”
Dāwūd did so and Allāh told him: “This is the least of my blessings upon you.”

| 2 | Umar b. Khaṭṭāb became unconscious after he was stabbed, and it was said: “Nothing would wake him up except the call to prayer, if he is still alive.”
They said to him: “The prayer has finished, O Chief of the Faithful!”
He woke up and said: “The prayer, by Allāh! Verily, there is no share in Islām for whoever abandons the prayer.”
He performed the prayer while his wound was bleeding.

| 3 | A man in Kufā used to spread a rumour that ‘Uthmān b. ‘Affān was a Jew.
So Abū Ḥanīfah approached him and said: “I come to you with a proposal.”
The man said: “What is the proposal concerning?”
Abū Ḥanīfah said: “I come to ask for your daughter’s hand in marriage for a man who is noble, wealthy and a hafiz of the Qur’ān, he’s devoted in worship. He spends the night praying and cries a lot from the fear of Allāh.”
The man said: “You have said enough to convince me he’s a suitable person to marry my daughter, O’ Abū Ḥanīfah.”
Imām Abū Ḥanīfah then said: “Except that this suitor has a certain characteristic...”
The man said “... And what is that?”
Abū Ḥanīfah said: “This man is a Jew.”
The Shī’ah said: سبحان الله! Do you order me to give away my daughter in marriage to a Jew, O’ Abū Ḥanīfah?!”
The Imām said to the Shī’ah: “Do you agree to marry her to the Jew?”
The Shī’ah said: “No!”
Abū Ḥanīfah said: “But you are spreading the news that the Holy Prophet married two of his daughters to a Jew.”
The Shī’ah said: “I seek Allāh’s forgiveness! I turn to Allāh with repentance right now.

| 8 | Ibn al-Qayyim said:
“Immediate repentance is obligatory after committing a sin.
It is not permissible to delay it.
Whenever someone delays it, he has committed (another) sin by delaying it.
In this case, when he repents from the sin (itself), another act of repentance remains a duty upon him - that he must repent for delaying his repentance!”

| 12 | ﴾إلا من تاب وآمن وعمل عملا صالحا فأولئك يبدل الله سيئاتهم حسنات﴿
Translation: Except for those who repent and believe and do good deeds, then Allaah will change their bad deeds into good.
Salmaan al-Farsi said: A man will be given his scroll on the Day of Resurrection. So he will read from the top and he’ll see his evil deeds!
And just as he’s about to lose hope, he’ll look below and see his good deeds!
Then he’ll look at the top of his scroll again and behold! His evil deeds have been converted into good deeds!

| 13 | A man among the people Of Balakh asked Ash-Shafi’ee annoy faith.
Ash-Shafi’ee said to him:
“What do you say about it?”
The man said: “I say it is words alone.”
Ash-Shafi’ee said: “From where do you say this?”
The man said: “From the saying of Allāh the Exalted: “Verily, those who believe and do righteous deeds” (١١/٨٥), for the word ‘and’ has become a separator between faith and actions, so faith is one matter and legislated actions are another.”
Ash-Shafi’ee said: “So you have made the word ‘and’ as a separator?”
The man said yes.
Ash-Shafi’ee said: “Then you worship two gods, the God of the East and the God of the West, for Allāh the Exalted said: “Lord of the two Easts and Lord of the two Wests.” (٥٥/١٧)
The man became angry and he said: “Glory to Allāh! Have you made me an idolater?”
Ash-Shafi’ee said: “No, rather you have done that yourself.”
The man said: “How?”
Ash-Shafi’ee said: “You imagine that the word ‘and’ is a separator.”
The man said: “I seek forgiveness from Allāh for what I have said. I worship none but one Lord. I will not say after today that the word ‘and’ is a separator. Rather, I say that faith is words and actions and it increases and decreases.”
