Prophet ﷺ said: “The example of a believer who recites the Qurʿān is that of a citron (a citrus fruit) which tastes good and smells good.
And the believer who does not recite the Qurʿān is like a date which tastes good but has no smell.
And the example of an evil person who recites the Qurʿān is that of Ar-Rihana (an aromatic plant) which smells good but tastes bitter.
And the example of an evil person who does not recite the Qurʿān is that of a colocynth which tastes bitter and has no smell.”

| 4 | Imam Aḥmad Ḥanbal was asked regarding a man from the people of knowledge who errs and repented from it. He said:
”Allāh will not accept that from him until:
1. He outwardly manifests the Tawbah.
2. He retracts his statement.
3. He publicly announces that he made such and such statement.
4. That he repents to Allāh the Exalted for his statement and recants from it.
If he outwardly displays this then it will be accepted.”
Then he recited the statement of Allāh the Exalted:
(إِلَّا الَّذِينَ تَابُوا وَأَصْلَحُوا وَبَيَّنُوا فَأُولَٰئِكَ أَتُوبُ عَلَيْهِمْ ۚ ُ)
[سورة البقرة 160]
Except those who repent, rectify, and clarify; they are those who's repentance shall be accepted. [Al-Baqarah 2:160]

| 5 | Ḥasan al-Baṣrī رحمه الله said: “Qiyaam al-layl is the honour of the believers and it is their power of refraining from what normal people do (sleep).”

| 6 | The Command Of Allaah To Obey Him & Obey His Messenger
Allaah said:
﴿لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو اللَّهَ وَالْيَوْمَ الْآخِرَ وَذَكَرَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا﴾
«Indeed in the Messenger of Allaah you have a good example to follow for him who hopes for [the Meeting with] Allaah and the Last Day, and remembers Allaah much.» [33:21]
Ibn Katheer said:
❝This noble Ayaah is a major principle in taking the Messenger of Allaah [ﷺ] as an example to follow.
Following him in his statements, his actions and his matters.
This is why Allaah [تبارك وتعالى] commanded the people to take the Prophet [ﷺ] as an example on the day of Al-Ahzab [the battle of the trench when all the tribes gathered to fight the Muslims] in regards to his patience, forbearance, determination, his striving and waiting for relief from his Lord [عز و جل].❞

| 7 | Islām Is Peace And Submission
جاء رجل إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال : يا رسول الله، ما الإسلام ؟ قال : أن تسلم قلبك لله ، وأن يسلم المسلمون من لسانك ويدك.
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of Allāh ﷺ what is Islām?,
He ﷺ said: “That you submit your heart to Allāh and that Muslims are SAFE from YOUR TONGUE and YOUR HAND.”

| 8 | Being Overwhelmed By The Non-Muslims
Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah [رحمه الله] said: ❝The reason for being overwhelmed by the non-Muslims is because of the sins of the Muslims which causes the deficiency in their Eemaan. Then after that if they repent by perfecting their Eemaan Allaah will aid them.❞

| 9 | How To Identify A Person Who Follows His Desires?
Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan [حفظه الله] said: ❝If you said to a person who is truthful and made a mistake, you have erred in this evidence, you have erred in the Sunnah, then he will accept this, because his aim and goal is the truth, and his aim is not to make his opinion victorious.
However, if you said to a person who follows desires, you have made a mistake, he becomes angry and very harsh, this is the sign of the people who follow whims and desires, that each one of them wants to make his whims and desires victorious.❞

| 10 | What Is The Path Of Goodness?
Shaykh Salih Al-Fawzan [حفظه الله] said: ❝Goodness cannot be acquired except by Islam and following the path of the methodology of the Messenger [ﷺ], and the rightly guided Khulafah and the Salaf, and goodness cannot be achieved except by this.
As for chaos and false promises and what is acquired from the promises of the disbelievers and how they beautify matters then you must reject that completely and do not pay any attention to that because it is evil, tribulations and misguidance.❞

| 11 | Becoming Weaker
Shaykh Muhammad Bin Salih Al-Uthaymeen [رحمه الله] said: ❝If you find in yourself that you are setback and becoming weaker, then deliver yourself with repentance and seek forgiveness from Allaah Azza Wa Jal, and ask Allaah to make you firm and do not become negligent.
Do not say In Shaa Allaah my Eemaan will become strengthened, rather, from right now when you feel the illness coming, you should take the cure, the medicine.❞

| 12 | Fatawa Of The Companions
Ibn Al-Qayyim Al-Jawzeeyah [D. 751 A.H.] [رحمه الله] said: ❝Indeed the Ahl-ul Sunnah Wal-Hadeeth who study and research the knowledge of the Messenger [ﷺ] and the knowledge of those from his innermost circle from his Companions.
They are the most knowledgeable about this inheritance of knowledge.
Therefore, their lives regarding the Deen whether it is of the knowledge, understanding, deeds and creed has a weightiness and is regarded in understanding the intent of Allaah and His Messenger.
This is why taking the Fatawa of the Companions and the Aathaar As-Salafeeyah has precedence than the opinions of those who came later and their Fatawa.❞

| 13 | Deeds Which Necessitate Maghfirah
The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: “Indeed from the deeds which necessitate Forgiveness (from Allāh) are to extend the Salām and beautiful speech.”

| 14 | Allah says in surah al-An'am:
[وَهُوَ الَّذِي أَنزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَأَخْرَجْنَا بِهِ نَبَاتَ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ فَأَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهُ خَضِرًا نُّخْرِجُ مِنْهُ حَبًّا مُّتَرَاكِبًا وَمِنَ النَّخْلِ مِن طَلْعِهَا قِنْوَانٌ دَانِيَةٌ وَجَنَّاتٍ مِّنْ أَعْنَابٍ وَالزَّيْتُونَ وَالرُّمَّانَ مُشْتَبِهًا وَغَيْرَ مُتَشَابِهٍ ۗ انظُرُوا إِلَىٰ ثَمَرِهِ إِذَا أَثْمَرَ وَيَنْعِهِ ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكُمْ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يُؤْمِنُونَ]
And it is He who sends down rain from the sky by which We bring forth the growth of every thing. So We bring forth from it greenery from which We produce grains arranged in layers. And from the palm trees low-hanging clusters of emerging fruits. And gardens of grapevines, olives and pomegranates - similar yet different. Look at its fruits when it yields and when it ripens! There are signs in that for people who believe. [99]
Ibn Juzay wrote:
"Look at its fruits when it yields and when it ripens!"
In other words, look at its fruits that emerge weak and without any benefit at first but then progress from one stage to the next until they ripen and become good.

| 15 | Allah says in surah al-Nisa':
[وَلَا تَتَمَنَّوْا مَا فَضَّلَ اللَّـهُ بِهِ بَعْضَكُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۚ لِّلرِّجَالِ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا اكْتَسَبُوا ۖ وَلِلنِّسَاءِ نَصِيبٌ مِّمَّا اكْتَسَبْنَ ۚ وَاسْأَلُوا اللَّـهَ مِن فَضْلِهِ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّـهَ كَانَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمًا]
And wish not for the things in which Allah has made some of you to excel others. For men is a share of what they have earned, and for women is a share of what they have earned. And ask Allah of His bounty. Surely, Allah is Ever All-Knower of everything. [32]
'Ataa' said:
This is that a person says, "I would love to have so-and-so's wealth." Allah said, "Ask Allah of His bounty"! Or that women say, "If only we were men so we could go out in battle and achieve what men achieve."

| 16 | In surah al-Baqarah, Allah extols remembering Him by saying:
[فَإِذَا قَضَيْتُم مَّنَاسِكَكُمْ فَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ كَذِكْرِكُمْ آبَاءَكُمْ أَوْ أَشَدَّ ذِكْرًا]
So when you have completed your rituals, then remember Allah as you remember your fathers or with even more remembrance [200]
and He then goes on to say:
[فَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَمَا لَهُ فِي الْآخِرَةِ مِنْ خَلَاقٍ * وَمِنْهُم مَّن يَقُولُ رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ]
There are some people who say, "Our Lord, grant us in this life" but they will have no portion in the hereafter. * And there are some who say, "Our Lord, grant us good in this life and good in the next life and save us from the punishment of hellfire" [200-201]
At the intersection of these ayaat, ibn Kathir commented:
Allah goes on to guide us to supplicate to Him after remembering Him abundantly, for that is a circumstance in which supplications are accepted.
And He criticizes those who only ask for worldly things while ignoring the hereafter.

| 17 | Recounting the story of Lut in surah al-A'raf, Allah says:
[فَأَنجَيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ إِلَّا امْرَأَتَهُ كَانَتْ مِنَ الْغَابِرِينَ * وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَرًا ۖ فَانظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ]
So We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was one of those who stayed behind. * And We rained down a rain on them. So look at how the final outcome was for the criminals. [83-84]
Commenting on this, ibn Taymiyah wrote: Whoever is pleased with a people's action will be raised up with them on the Day of Resurrection just as Lut's wife will be raised with her people despite not having committed the reprehensible act of liwat - for that is something that women cannot do. However, since she was pleased with their act then the punishment afflicted her alongside them.

| 18 | This Was In His Time How About Our Times
Ibn Hajr Al-Asqalaani [D. 852 A.H.] [رحمه الله] said:
❝Indeed, we find the quickness of passing of days in our time which we did not find in the times before our times, and the truth is that the meaning is the wrenching away of blessings from everything even the blessings of time and that is from the signs of the approach of the final hour.❞

| 19 | How to repent for backbiting.
● The majority of scholars have stated that repentance for committing the sin of backbiting is that one refrains from backbiting intending not to repeat it again.
● There is a difference of opinion if whether feeling remorse is required in this case, and also if one should apologize to those who he has backbitten.
● Some scholars stated that it is not necessary for one to ask those whom he has backbitten to forgive him, because if they knew what was said about them, they could be hurt more than if they were not told about it.
It is better, they said, that one should praise those whom he has backbitten in audiences in which he has committed the act.
● It is also better if one defends the injured party against any further backbiting, as much as one can, as recompense for his earlier backbiting.

| 20 | The One Who Does Not Pray
Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah [رحمه الله] said:
❝If all the people criticise a man for marrying a woman who is a thief, adultress or she drinks alcohol etc, then it is obligatory that their criticism of marrying a woman who does not pray should be greater and greater and this is an agreement among the scholars.
Indeed the woman who does not pray is more evil than a woman who is an adultress, a thief and a woman who drinks alcohol.❞
