🔸Qatar approached Iran at the start of the war offering a mutual arrangement to protect its primary economic asset.
🔸 Iran would pledge not to attack Qatar's Ras Laffan industrial complex.
🔸 Qatar volunteered to halt liquefied natural gas (LNG) production unilaterally,this halt would send global energy prices soaring, forcing the U.S. and Israel to end the war quickly.
🔸 However, the CIA and senior Trump administration officials were fully aware of intercepted communications exposing the outreach.
🔸Despite the move potentially undermining Western military objectives, there has been no breakdown in U.S.-Qatari relations and also the US President noted he previously held back on resuming strikes against Iran following direct appeals from Gulf monarchs, including Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
🔸The secret diplomacy ultimately failed to protect the hub; Iranian strikes severely hit Ras Laffan on March 18.The attack destroyed critical infrastructure responsible for nearly 20 percent of Qatar's global LNG exports.
🔸Qatari Energy Minister Saad Al-Kaabi stated that repairs will take three to five years, causing severe delivery disruptions to China, South Korea, and Belgium.
🔸Qatar’s media office strongly denied that Doha fabricated or exaggerated the facility's damage as a pretext to shut down production, the officials maintained the shutdown was based purely on military risk assessments to protect human life.

It cites a source close to the Iranian negotiating team, but the details have not been confirmed publicly by either Tehran or Washington. The report says the text is yet to be finalised by the Iranian leadership.
According to the report, the draft includes 14 points:
🔸Permanent and immediate cessation of war on all fronts, including Lebanon.
🔸The US’s “commitment to non-interference in Iran’s internal affairs” and respect for its sovereignty.
🔸Lifting of US naval blockade within 30 days.
🔸Withdrawal of US forces from around Iran.
🔸Reopening the strait of Hormuz within 30 days “with Iranian arrangements”.
🔸Suspension of US sanctions on Iranian oil.
🔸US and allies to draw up reconstruction plans for Iran “worth at least $300bn”.
🔸Sixty days of negotiations to reach a final agreement “based on nuclear issues and the complete lifting of” sanctions.
🔸Reiterating Iran’s commitment not to produce nuclear weapons.
🔸During the negotiations, the US will not increase its forces in the region or impose new sanctions.
🔸Release $24bn in blocked Iranian funds.
🔸Establishing a monitoring mechanism to implement the agreement.
🔸Final agreement to be approved by a UN security council resolution.
🔸The final negotiations will not begin before the release of half of Iran’s frozen funds, the suspension of oil sanctions and the lifting of the naval blockade. “Discussions about Iran’s missile programme and support for resistance groups have been definitively removed from the agenda.”

| 6 |  🇺🇸President Trump said Thursday he is nominating Jay Clayton, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York and a former Securities and Exchange Commission chairman, as director of national intelligence after the "resignation" of Tulsi Gabbard.
Under Clayton, the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office facilitated the unsealing of thousands of pages of court records from the prosecutions of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell — documents that were made public as part of the Justice Department’s release of records related to the late sex offender and his longtime confidant.
Clayton filed documents with the court explaining the process the government followed in releasing the materials. Documents that were highly redacted.
Clayton has also overseen the prosecution of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and Maduro’s wife, Cilia Flores, on drug trafficking charges.
It goes to show why he's a Donald Trump pick.

Despots of the Dark Continent: Gaddafi, Abacha, Amin and the Western Propaganda Machine

This is the single unbroken rule of Western engagement with African leadership.
This principle applies as much to African heads of state as it does to the powers that back them. Steal for the West, and you become an “astute politician.” Steal from them, or worse, steal for your country, and you become a monster in need of removal.
Perhaps looking at history from a non-Anglo perspective cleans up the scratches on its lens, making reality much simpler yet complex, allowing us to revisit the myth of Amin, Abacha, and Gaddafi through the looking glass of time. They were men who believed their countries should not be permanent economic colonies, who acted on that belief, and who were destroyed by a machinery of narrative control so sophisticated it could turn debt repayment into theft and social programs into tyranny.
This is not a defense of these flawed leaders; after all, they are humans. It is a reclamation of context from those who weaponize it selectively. We have seen Sani Abacha pay down Nigeria’s debt and earn sanctions and the word “kleptocrat” for his trouble and seen Muammar Gaddafi build social programs that would embarrass Scandinavia and die sodomized in a ditch on the streets of Libya. Libya’s literacy rate rose from around 10–25 percent before his rule to over 80–90 percent by the 2000s, supported by free education, free healthcare, and extensive welfare programs that gave Libya one of the highest human development indicators in Africa.
In this article, we move through Idi Amin, Sani Abacha, and Muammar Gaddafi as case studies of how sovereignty is turned into “despotism” on Western screens; explore the architecture that makes it work; and finally, we return to the question of African sovereignty and who gets to tell the story of these so‑called “monsters.”
The West does not fear African “cruelty”; it fears African sovereignty. This is an examination of the three men who said no and the propaganda machine that turned their defiance into monstrosity.....

On Thursday, South Korea and the USA, as part of a meeting of the nuclear advisory group in Seoul, confirmed their common goal - the denuclearization of North Korea.
A day earlier, the leaders of South Korea and the European Union issued a statement that North Korea "will never be recognized as a state possessing nuclear weapons, in accordance with the international treaty on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, and will not be granted any other status in this regard".
Expanded deterrence measures imply the US's obligation to use the full range of its military capabilities, including nuclear ones, to protect its ally.
