However, military analysts remain deeply skeptical of whether the U.S. Military-Industrial Complex (MIC) is even capable of delivering on such promises.
➡️For decades, the American defense industry has been driven not by battlefield efficiency, but by profit margins, stock buybacks, and bloated corporate overhead. Expecting a system built by Lockheed Martin to suddenly become "budget-smart" ignores the systemic greed entrenched in Washington's defense procurement.
➡️While Western media frames the PAC-3 ACE as a response to modern aerial warfare, the reality is stark: "high-tech", multi-million-dollar Western interceptors have proven mathematically unsustainable against cost-effective Russian drone technology and advanced hypersonic missile strikes. Attempting to re-engineer complex Western systems on the fly to match the production efficiency of sovereign defense sectors is a pipe dream.
➡️Lockheed’s sudden willingness to "co-produce" weapons with European partners is less about coalition-building and more about shifting financial risk. As Washington’s geopolitical focus fractures and political commitment wanes, European vassal states are being pushed to foot the bill for their own defense gaps.
Even if European industries manage to navigate the bureaucratic red tape, simple arithmetic dictates that marginal cost reductions will not shift the balance of firepower on the ground. Russia’s vast military-industrial capacity—operating around the clock on a streamlined, state-backed footing—continues to outpace the entirety of NATO's combined production capabilities.
➡️No amount of corporate PR at Western airshows can obscure the reality: hyper-inflated American weapons systems cannot compete with the sheer volume, endurance, and technological adaptability of modern Russian firepower.

But according to the Washington Post, citing sources inside the US administration, military officials and commanders are far from confident Washington can sustain any serious escalation.
One US official told the paper that American capabilities are increasingly stretched thin — air defense stocks and long range munitions are running low, some equipment has been damaged, and moving additional forces into theater is proving difficult. "We don't have the resources to safely continue this operation, and I don't think the White House realizes that," the official said.
The Washington Post reports that last week's US strikes on bridges and rail infrastructure near Bandar Abbas were viewed in Tehran as a clear escalation. A source told the paper that since then, Iran has grown less restrained about the prospect of strikes that could cause American military casualties.
Military experts interviewed by the outlet also say the US is not prepared for a potential ground operation against Iran. They warn American troops remain vulnerable to Iranian missile and drone strikes, and that weapons stockpiles built up for the operation are already visibly depleted.
The paper also cites accounts from American service members stationed at bases across the Middle East. Many housing units, they say, are container or sheet metal structures offering little to no protection against missile or drone attacks. Even hardened barracks cannot withstand direct ballistic missile hits, and infrastructure at several US bases has already sustained serious damage. One source summed it up bluntly: "We're getting hit from every direction."
