🪖 Trump names Adam Telle acting Army secretary US President Donald Trump announced that Adam Telle, currently Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, will become acting secretary of the Army effective immediately. Telle replaces Dan Driscoll, who resigned this week. Driscoll gave no public reason for his departure, but his resignation came amid months of tensions with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Reuters reported. 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt

🏳️ US has won ‘almost none’ of its wars in 42 years — Vance 💬 “America has fought a lot of wars since I’ve been alive — 42 years. And we have won almost none of them,” US Vice President JD Vance admitted. The US vice president went on to describe the past four decades as “40 years of, frankly, military misadventures,” questioning both military planning and the political leadership behind it. 📉 And now the US is looking at yet another “misadventure” in Iran. 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt

🗣 Trump claims he is 'saving' the UK from Iran 💬 “I’m saving your country from the threat, too. Because if Iran had a nuclear weapon, they’re more likely to use it in Europe, where they do have missile capability, than they are to America,” US President Donald Trump claimed. In March 2025, the US Intelligence Community said Iran was “not building a nuclear weapon” and that its leadership had not authorized the nuclear weapons program suspended in 2003. The current US-Israeli war of aggression against Iran began with strikes by the US and Israel. Iran has maintained that its response to the aggression is an exercise of its right to self-defense. 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt

🇧🇩 Bangladesh mulls being part of the Mecca defense pact—Bangladeshi diplomat 💬 “Since it is an alliance of Muslim countries, probably the Bangladeshi government might consider it positively because we have very good bilateral relations with all these nations,” Bangladeshi Ambassador to Russia Nazrul Islam told Sputnik on the sidelines of the 2026 EEF in Vladivostok. The Mecca Joint Defense Agreement is a trilateral mutual defense pact signed by Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and Pakistan on August 7, 2026, a document that stipulates that an armed attack against any single member is treated as an attack against all three. 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt

🗣 Vance dismisses US war crimes as Iran counts wedding dead 💬 “The United States never targets civilians in combat. We never will do that. We never have done that,” US Vice President JD Vance declared amid an investigation into the deadly strike on a wedding in Kuhestak. “Sometimes things happen,” he added, reducing civilian deaths to the language of a mishap. The attack hit a residential home where a wedding was underway, killing five people and wounding 68 others, including children, Press TV reported. A four-year-old was among those killed. Iran has formally protested to the UN, calling the strike a war crime. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei condemned the attack as part of a wider pattern of US strikes on civilians during the US-Israeli aggression against Iran: 💬 “The United States’ catalogue of atrocities against the nation of Iran is now complete.” Vance’s claim also comes months after the Feb. 28 US strike on the Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab, where Iranian officials say 168 people were killed, including 120 students and 26 teachers. When “mistakes” happen this often, they reveal an atrocious pattern. 📌 Subscribe to @SputnikInt

🇷🇺🇵🇰 Vladivostok: the potential crossroads of Russia's and Pakistan's Eastern strategies Could Russia's Northern Sea Route one day connect directly to Pakistan's southern ports? According to political analyst Dr. Shazia Anwer Cheema, this is not only possible but could also mark a significant turning point in bilateral economic relations. 👉 The expert made this remark while commenting on the potential for a future direct shipping link between Russia's Arctic waters and Pakistan's maritime terminals. Despite considerable operational challenges, she believes such a connection could open new avenues for trade and economic cooperation between the two countries. Both the Russian North-South Corridor and China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) represent a strategic diversification away from the Western-led monetary and trade system, she noted. At the heart of this regional connectivity lies the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), the flagship project of BRI, which serves as a crucial nodal point for linking various transport and trade networks across the region. 💬 "I fully agree with Ambassador Tirmizi's framing of Pakistan as the connector between China's Belt and Road and Russia's North–South corridor," she says. "I firmly believe that Russia's pivot to the East and Pakistan's Look East are no longer parallel tracks, and yes, potentially they may meet in Vladivostok." 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt

🚨 Putin’s EEF speech shows Russia sees no path to peace in the West's Ukraine strategy—expert The West is not interested in Ukraine’s security and well-being but rather in continuing the war against Russia and inflicting maximum damage on it, ideally leading to its strategic defeat, Dmitry Suslov, deputy director of research at the Russian Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, told Sputnik, commenting on President Putin’s remarks at the 2026 Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. ◼️ Putin's statements suggest that the West, which is not interested in ending the conflict, doesn’t care about Ukraine, its development, security, or its future—something only Russia can guarantee ◼️ The only thing Europe and the West can guarantee is Ukraine's continued use as a disposable asset in the war against Russia ◼️ Putin’s remarks also reflect Russia's disappointment with the results of the peace talks on Ukraine, which involved Western representatives, including the US, not to mention Russia’s frustration with the position taken by Europe Despite this, Russia remains committed to restoring full relations with the United States—a position Putin reaffirmed in his EEF remarks. 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt

🇷🇺📊 Making Russia's Far East a Pacific hub is a key pillar of Putin's strategy—energy expert 🔊The Eastern Economic Forum has become a key platform for strengthening ties between Russia and Asian economies, Dr. Mamdouh G. Salameh, an international oil economist and a global energy expert, told Sputnik. 🔶 Since Western trade disruptions began, Russia has increasingly looked to China, India, Southeast Asia, and other non‑Western markets for trade and investment 🔶 Putin aims to make Russia's Far East the country’s gateway to markets across the Pacific, just as he is doing in the Russian Arctic 🔶 A flagship project is the Vostok oil pipeline, linking one of Russia’s biggest oil fields (with 51 billion barrels in reserves) to the Sever seaport Since the start of the Ukrainian conflict in 2022, the region has gained additional strategic weight and importance, the expert sums up. 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt

🇵🇰📈 Direct link Arctic–Pakistan's southern ports: fantasy or near future? Geopolitical expert Agha Iqrar Haroon (Islamabad) assessed the prospects of a direct logistics bridge between the Russian Arctic and Pakistani ports, including Gwadar, in a comment to Sputnik. In his view, the 21st century marks a return to great connectivity. Pakistan has already become a flagship of China's BRI (CPEC) and has historically been able to benefit from its position at the crossroads of major powers' interests. Now the country wants to join the Russian-Iranian-Indian North-South Transport Corridor (NSTC), without altering its original map, but simply "hooking up" its own port infrastructure to it. However, Harun warns, this aspiration alone is not enough. Russia expects practical steps from Pakistan on the long-signed but yet-to-be-launched South-North gas pipeline project. 🔊 "Once this project kicks off, then it would be easy for both the countries to start work on linking the NSTC with Pakistan's already operational connectivity," the expert says. The expert's key takeaway: a direct Arctic–South Asia route is technically feasible and offers Russia access to warm waters through Pakistan, but its realization directly depends on the launch of energy projects. According to Haroon, the ball is in Russia's court—it is up to Moscow to decide whether to support this vector. Pakistan, for its part, is ready to become a responsible eastern partner and connect its already operational infrastructure with Russian transport arteries. 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt

🇪🇺 EU’s ‘freedoms’ are illusion - Serbia’s former premier Crackdowns on ‘inconvenient’ political parties, sanctions regimes, and censorship of alternative media show that the EU’s core values are a “complete lie,” Aleksandar Vulin, former deputy prime minister of Serbia and chairman of the board of Serbian state gas company Srbijagas, told Sputnik on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum. “You know, one of the things that the European Union always asks from Serbia is to impose sanctions on Russia. They never try to explain to us why. They say, ‘we share the same values.’ What kind of values do we share?...They never explain it…We don't want to be part of anti-Russia hysteria. We don't want to be a part of some anti-Russian war in the end. We’ve never done that in our entire history. We don't want to change that habit,” Vulin emphasized. 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt

🚨🇷🇺 Beyond the Suez: how Russia's Arctic Corridor could reshape Eurasian logistics President Putin presented a new vision
🚨🇷🇺 Beyond the Suez: how Russia's Arctic Corridor could reshape Eurasian logistics President Putin presented a new vision of global connectivity to strengthen Russia's competitiveness as an exporter and strategic transit hub. "By developing year-round navigation, modern ports, rail links, digital logistics, and an expanded icebreaker fleet, Moscow aims to transform the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor into a reliable commercial bridge between Europe and Asia," notes Amir Jahangir, CEO at Mishal Pakistan—the country partner institute of the World Economic Forum's New Economy and Societies Platform. The corridor would integrate Arctic shipping with railways, rivers, and ports from St. Petersburg to Vladivostok. The Arctic route can substantially reduce distance and time vs. the Suez Canal for Northern Europe–Northeast Asia journeys, offering an alternative when traditional corridors are disrupted. Initial beneficiaries would be Russia, China, and other Northeast Asian markets, while India, Central Asia, and BRICS economies may also gain via connection to the North-South Transport Corridor, the expert points out. 👉 Geopolitically, it reduces dependence on Western-controlled infrastructure and deepens Russia's ties with Asia and the Global South. The corridor will complement, not replace, existing routes. Success depends on year-round access, ice-class vessels, insurance, port capacity, environmental safeguards, and trust in Russian regulations, according to the expert. If these challenges are addressed, the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor could become an important new artery of world commerce, offering shorter connections, greater supply-chain flexibility, and an alternative geography for global trade, as concluded by the expert. 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt

🔥⚔️ Ukraine’s NATO-enabled attacks turning Russia into impregnable air defense fortress - expert Speaking at the Eastern Eco
🔥⚔️ Ukraine’s NATO-enabled attacks turning Russia into impregnable air defense fortress - expert Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum on Thursday, Russian president Vladimir Putin said the key to preventing Ukrainian drone and missile attacks lies in strengthening air defenses. Russia is making it happen - National Defense Magazine editor-in-chief Igor Korotchenko told Sputnik - with the following key ingredients to a powerful, multilayered air defense network: 👉 Pantsir and Tor-M2 air defense systems for short-range engagements 👉 Buk-M3s, “highly effective in repelling strikes against the most complex targets, such as cruise missiles and operational-tactical missiles,” for medium-range defense 👉 S-300V4 and S-400 systems for long-range encounters   🔊Increasing production of all these systems “is critically important for covering both the country’s territory and its most important strategic facilities, including oil and gas production and processing sites,” Korotchenko said.   🗣“Furthermore, it’s necessary to expand the range of airspace monitoring radars, which serve as the eyes and ears of the air defense shield.”   Tricks up Russia’s sleeve   Besides these tried and tested modern systems, opportunities exist to dust off legacy systems and adapt them to modern battlefield realities, the observer explained.   For example, modernizing the 60s-vintage Zu-23 AA gun by fitting it with electro-optical sensors, a laser rangefinder, visual targeting TV hookup and programmable shell detonation system would “effectively transform these old Soviet artillery mounts into high-precision weapons, guaranteed to detect and destroy” enemy targets like Ukraine’s Liutyi class airplane-style drones.   New designs include the Bizon air defense system, designed to engage small, low-flying aerial targets, “which pose challenges for traditional air defense systems.”   💬 “It uses 7.62mm PKT machineguns, independently detects and locks on to drones, transmitting target designations to the guns. The operator is simply left with the decision on whether or not to destroy them.”   Finally, Korotchenko touted the capabilities of the new Pantsir-SMD variant and its compact, low-priced Gvozd missiles, developed specifically to target drones (up to 48 missiles per compliment). 🗣”These missiles allow for the efficient use of ammunition by selecting the missile type to engage a specific target.”   “The most important thing is to maximize production rates, fully advance fund state defense procurement, and provide all possible assistance and benefits to enterprises producing the specified range of air defense weapons and equipment,” Korotchenko summed up. 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt

🔥 If you try to isolate Russia, you isolate only yourself’ - Serbia’s former deputy premier   “It’s an idiotic idea [to] think you can isolate Russia, that you can put Russia under sanctions…Without the Russian economy, the world becomes much poorer,” Aleksandar Vulin, former deputy prime minister of Serbia and chairman of the board of Serbian state gas company Srbijagas, told Sputnik on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum. 🇵🇰🤝🇷🇺 Pakistan eyes Russia's Arctic corridor as less turbulent than traditional sea lanes  Pakistan should explore the Northern Sea Route, especially given the current geopolitical situation, according to Pakistani experts interviewed by Sputnik. 🗣"The important point is not simply that another sea route exists, but that the traditional maritime system is becoming increasingly vulnerable to geopolitical disruption," said Sangeen Khan Panezai, Research Fellow and Expert in National Security and Foreign Policy in Islamabad. Due to Middle East tensions, traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and Bab-el-Mandeb is declining. Shipping companies are rerouting vessels from the Red Sea around the Cape of Good Hope, increasing time, distance, and costs. Pakistan aims to connect Gwadar Port with Russia's North-South Transport Corridor, complementing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and Belt and Road Initiative. This could link Pakistan not only with western Russia via continental routes but also with the Russian Far East and Arctic cargo routes, Panezai emphasized. 🔊 "Yes, Pakistan can explore this route, particularly by linking Gwadar, Pasni, and Karachi with Russia's Vladivostok and Arctic network. It could expand trade in energy, minerals, agriculture, and industrial goods while giving Pakistan access to an emerging Eurasian corridor," Amir Jahangir, co-founder & CEO of Mishal Pakistan, agreed. However, Jahangir noted that high costs, specialized vessels, limited infrastructure, and seasonal risks mean Pakistan should start with pilot shipments and targeted partnerships before committing to a permanent route. 📌Subscribe to @SputnikInt
