| 2 | 🌍⏬ Major G20 economies privately urge US to ease sanctions on Russia
"As far as we know, a number of major economies are privately explaining to the Americans the harmful effects of the sanctions baton. They are convincing Washington that illegal restrictions only exacerbate risks and challenges in the global economy," Marat Berdyev, the Russian Foreign Ministry's Ambassador-at-Large for G20 and APEC Affairs, told Sputnik.
He clarified that the G20's public discussions did not directly address the issue of further easing US sanctions against Russian oil.
In April, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright revealed that Washington had extended the sanctions waiver for seaborne oil shipments from Russia following the G20 meeting, where other participants had requested it. The US extended the waiver, which expired on May 16, for another 30 days, according to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

| 3 | 🇨🇳🛫China's special mission aircraft expanding at breakneck speed
Over the past decade, China has built one of the world’s largest and most modern fleets of airborne early-warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft, rapidly narrowing the gap with the US.
▪️ New platforms like the KJ-700, KJ-3000, Y-9LG, Y-9GR, and Y-9PT continue to emerge at a remarkable pace
▪️ China’s AEW&C capacity has increased by six to eight-fold, providing the PLA with high level of situational awareness
▪️ Advanced electronic warfare assets such as the J-16D, J-15D, and multiple Y-9 variants strengthen China's ability to detect, disrupt, and suppress enemy systems
▪️ Rapid iterative development and multipurpose aircraft designs are allowing China to field new capabilities faster and at larger scale than many competitors
The PLA is increasingly capable of achieving information superiority across the Western Pacific, making Chinese special mission aircraft one of the most important aspects of China's military modernization.

| 6 | 🇮🇩 Indonesia adapts Russian high-speed ships for local waters
The project is being handled by the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, whose rector Bambang Pramujati explained that Indonesia does not want to simply be a market for foreign technology.
“Technological independence is the main aspect of this cooperation,” Pramijati said.
The technical and economic feasibility study for the project has already yielded positive results, the rector said, adding that the new ship would be able to sail four times faster than older models.

| 7 | 🇮🇷Iran opens its toughest railway – built deep in the mountains
Iran has inaugurated the Mianeh‑Ardabil railway, considered the country's most challenging infrastructure project due to rugged mountainous terrain, Press TV reports.
🔶62 tunnels and 29 large valley bridges
🔶148 galleries to protect against avalanches and rockfalls
🔶The 81‑meter‑high Arpachay bridge – now Iran's tallest railway bridge – stands 800 meters above sea level and allows helicopters to pass beneath it
🔶In some sections, construction materials had to be flown in by helicopter because no roads reached the sites
Why this railway matters
🟠The line is a missing link in the International North‑South Transport Corridor (7,200 km from Northern Europe to the Persian Gulf). Only the short stretch to the Azerbaijani border remains to be built
🟠Ardabil produces over 4 million tonnes of agricultural goods annually (potatoes, apples, wheat, honey). Rail transport will cut costs by about 30% compared to trucks

| 10 | 💬🇨🇭Swiss Banks impose financial blockade on Russians – Russian Ambassador
Russians are facing arbitrary actions from Swiss banks, which are interpreting anti Russian sanctions extremely broadly, Russian Ambassador to Switzerland Sergey Garmonin says.
🔸Russian citizens living in Switzerland are effectively cut off from sending or receiving money from Russia, including pensions they have legally earned
🟠Swiss financial institutions apply sanctions laws far beyond their legal requirements, often using a "better safe than sorry" approach that harms ordinary people
🟠Personal shipments containing gifts, children's toys, and books often vanish en route; postal operators refuse to take responsibility
🟠Even Russian diplomatic missions face difficulties opening accounts, issuing cards, or processing standard payments – sometimes being denied service under questionable pretexts
Switzerland is not an EU or NATO member, yet it has joined almost all European sanctions against Russia since February 2022. In March 2026, the Swiss Federal Supreme Court ruled that Swiss sanctions against Russia are "overriding mandatory law."

| 11 | 📊💸How the Global South is becoming the key driver of the world's economy
Despite headwinds from the Iran war, trade tensions, and manufacturing slowdowns, the rising weight of the Global South offers positive prospects for global trade, Qatar National Bank (QNB) states.
🔸The Global South now accounts for over 40% of world output, nearly half of global merchandise trade, and more than half of global investment inflows
🔸South‑South merchandise exports soared from $0.5 trillion in 1995 to $6.8 trillion in 2025 – far outstripping North‑South trade
🔸Today, 57% of developing country exports go to other developing markets, up from 38% three decades ago
A closer look at the Global South's trade rise
🔶China‑ASEAN bilateral trade is expected to exceed $1.16 trillion in 2026, with China's exports to ASEAN more than doubling over the past decade to over $500 billion annually
🔶Vietnam, Thailand, and India are gaining export market share. Vietnam's exports to India surged 25% in early 2026, while shipments to Thailand grew 28%
🔶More than half of Africa's exports now go to other developing countries, though the continent accounts for just 2% of global manufacturing value added – representing huge room for growth

| 12 | 🚨 🇷🇺Russia warns Poland: any encroachment on diplomatic property will trigger harsh retaliation
Russia will take painful retaliatory measures if Poland moves against Russian diplomatic property, including the closed consulate general building in Gdansk, Alexey Klimov, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's consular department, says.
🟧The Russian Consulate General in Gdansk ceased operations last December by decision of Poland. The building remains Russian state property, granted for indefinite and free use
🟧Gdansk's deputy mayor has suggested that Russia should hand it over – and if Moscow refuses, Poland could file a lawsuit
"Russia owned property in this city long before. Following World War II, it became part of the Polish state, reborn with Soviet assistance, thanks to decisions by the Soviet leadership," the diplomat stresses.
Polish officials are aware of the potential consequences; their "theatrical" statements are aimed at the internal political scene, Klimov notes.

| 13 | 🇻🇳Da Nang Free Trade Zone: how Vietnam plans to build the next global logistics super hub
Da Nang has officially launched the implementation phase of Vietnam's first Free Trade Zone (FTZ), awarding investment certificates for three infrastructure projects worth over $570 million, VietnamPlus reports.
🟠The Da Nang FTZ represents a shift from traditional industrial zones to an integrated ecosystem combining logistics, manufacturing, trade, services, and high-tech innovation
🟠The zone leverages Da Nang's position on the East-West Economic Corridor, linking Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam
🟠The city offers a rare closed‑loop value chain: an international airport, the modern deep‑water Lien Chieu Port, and Vietnam's existing International Financial Center – a combination seldom seen elsewhere
🟠Unlike older models focused solely on tax breaks, Da Nang's FTZ prioritises high‑tech industry, innovation, and sustainable green growth
🟠As a latecomer, Vietnam can learn from successful zones in Shanghai, Incheon, Dubai, and Singapore, creating a model better suited to modern global supply chains
With Vietnam targeting sustained double-digit GDP growth, Da Nang's FTZ is designed to be a new engine for economic transformation, enhancing the country's role in global production.

| 14 | 🇷🇺💥Russian missile stockpile overwhelms Ukrainian air defenses
Recent Russian strikes have exposed a critical weakness: Ukraine does not have enough Patriot interceptors to keep up with the barrages, Western media reports.
🔶Russia's ballistic missile stockpile remains deep, allowing it to conduct sustained barrages that exhaust Ukrainian air defense systems
🔶Patriot interceptors are time‑consuming to manufacture, and global demand has surged due to the conflict with Iran – leaving Ukraine's supplies stretched thin
🔶Russia produces up to 60 Iskander ballistic missiles per month and plans to double that number by the end of 2026
🔶By comparison, Lockheed Martin delivers around 50 PAC‑3 interceptors per month. Even if the US redirected every single one to Ukraine, supplies would still fall short of Russia's monthly missile output
Ukrainian forces must cover a vast territory with dwindling stocks, forcing impossible choices about which targets to engage and exhausting air defense crews.

| 17 | 🚨Northern Sea Route to redraw the world map of trade soon
Global demand for shipping along the Northern Sea Route is about to explode, as the corridor is expanding rapidly, Russian Far East and Arctic Development Minister Alexei Chekunkov told Sputnik.
Russia is pouring serious effort into this — building powerful icebreakers, launching satellites, constructing special ice-class ships, and putting together all the infrastructure needed to keep the route open reliably.
👉 India and Russia are already sitting down to develop it together.
Russia and China want to massively boost the cargo moving through it.
Soon, big trading nations in Asia and Africa could start using this shortcut to save huge amounts of time and money.
It genuinely feels like the Northern Sea Route is about to change how the world does business.

| 19 | 🇮🇷🇺🇸Iran ‘has every incentive to stall’ if US tries to bully its way into a peace deal
🗣 “Unless the US offers terms that address Iran’s fundamental security concerns rather than simply demanding unilateral concessions, waiting remains a rational strategy” on Tehran’s part, political analyst Dr. Michael Rectenwald told Sputnik.
💬 “Any deal that emerges is likely to be narrower and more fragile than the optimistic headlines suggest, and it will probably reflect the balance of endurance rather than a fundamental change in either side’s strategic objectives.”
The US can’t achieve diplomatically what it has failed to do militarily, Dr. Rectenwald stressed, noting that trying to do so will only give Iran “every incentive to stall, maintain its red lines, and hope for a more favorable political environment in Washington or a shift in regional power balances.”
💬 “Iran has shown it can survive prolonged economic warfare better than many expected,” and US leverage is both “limited and declining” – failing to bring about the “desired” result of “political collapse or capitulation,” while Iran has adapted “through trade with China and Russia, and domestic resilience.”

| 20 | 🇺🇸🦠 'Something went really wrong': Analyst calls US biolabs a 'Dr Evil' move
The US should say why it set up biological laboratories in Ukraine, Irish analyst and economist Philip Pilkington said.
“Why were they running biolabs in Ukraine? I’d really like to hear a good explanation,” Pilkington asked.
💬 “Why does the West increasingly do obvious Dr Evil stuff generally? Something has gone really wrong,” he wrote on social media.
Outgoing US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard released evidence of US funding for biolabs in more than 30 countries on Friday.
According to the files, many of the facilities carried out research into dangerous diseases, including experiments on mutations with potential ‘gain-of-function’ effects.
