St Gregory the Great, faithful shepherd and servant of God, pray for us. In times of uncertainty and hardship, Gregory stepped forward to serve, used his gifts for the good of others, and faithfully led the Church with humility and love. His life reminds us that holiness is found not only in prayer, but also in how we show up for others and use what God has entrusted to us.
May we learn from his example to serve those in need, offer our gifts generously, and keep God at the centre of our lives. May our worship shape the way we live and love, so that Christ may truly reign in our hearts and communities. Here are three lessons we can learn from St Gregory the Great.
| 2 |  When life hurts, sometimes the only prayer we can manage is, āLord, please help me. I donāt know how much more I can take.ā And thatās okay. We donāt have to hide our pain from God or pretend to be strong. We can bring Him our tears, questions, anger and exhaustion. Asking Him to take our suffering away, or simply asking Him to stay close, is not a sign of weak faith. It is prayer.
And somehow, through the Cross, even the suffering we wish we could escape can be offered to God. We may not understand why weāre going through it, or see how anything good could come from it. But we can trust that our pain is never wasted when we place it in His hands. We may have to carry a cross, but we never have to carry it alone.

| 4 |  Water is something we often take for granted. Yet for many around the world, access to clean and safe water is still far from certain.
This September, let us pray for Pope Leo XIVās intention for the care of water, that this vital resource may be managed justly and sustainably, so everyone may have equal access to it. š§

| 6 |  When we dream about marriage and family life, we often picture a home of our own, children running around, family dinners, weekend outings and holidays together. Sometimes, that picture becomes our idea of what a āperfectā or even āholyā family should look like. But the truth is, š”šØš„š¢š§šš¬š¬ š¢š¬š§āš ššØš®š§š š¢š§ š©šš«šššš ššš¦š¢š„š¢šš¬; š¢šāš¬ ššØš®š§š š¢š§ šØš«šš¢š§šš«š² šØš§šš¬. Catholic families arenāt perfect, but we have the gift of Godās grace through the sacraments. Through simple habits like prayer, the Rosary and going to Mass, we can slowly make faith part of everyday family life.
There will be messy days, disagreements and moments when we wonder if weāre doing enough. But ššØš ššØšš¬š§āš š¬šš§ššš¢šš² š®š¬ ššš¬š©š¢šš šš”š šš”ššØš¬ šØš ššš¦š¢š„š² š„š¢šš, šš®š šØšššš§ šš”š«šØš®š š” š¢š. Perhaps our calling is simpler than we think: to trust God, love one another generously, forgive often, and keep beginning again.

| 8 |  Weāre all going to make mistakes. There will be choices we wish we could take back, words we wish we had never said, and moments we wish we could redo. But our mistakes do not make us unworthy of Godās love. No sin is too great to be forgiven when we turn to Him with a sincere and repentant heart. What matters is not that we are perfect, but that we are willing to acknowledge where we have fallen and desire to do better.
Repentance is Godās invitation to begin again. He meets us not with condemnation, but with mercy ā inviting us to return, to receive His forgiveness, and to allow His grace to transform us. We may not be able to change what has already happened, but with God, our past does not have to determine who we become. There is always grace to get back up, try again, and begin anew.

| 10 |  How often do we let fear make our decisions for us? In todayās Gospel, Herod knew that John was a righteous and holy man and listened to him with curiosity. Yet when the moment came, he chose to protect his reputation rather than do what was right. Perhaps we can relate more than weād like to admit ā fearing what people will think, being left out, disappointing others, or looking foolish for standing by what we believe.
Following God doesnāt mean we will never feel afraid. It means learning whose voice deserves the final say. May we have the courage to choose what is right, even when it costs us our pride, comfort or reputation. Because we were not made to live for the approval of others, but to live in the love of God.

| 13 |  +7St Augustineās Confessions is more than the story of a saint. Itās the honest story of someone who struggled, made mistakes, searched for meaning, and spent years finding his way back to God.
Maybe thatās why his story feels so familiar. The saints werenāt perfect. They were people who let God meet them where they were and slowly transform their lives.
And thatās the beauty of the Church: there is always room for us to come home. No matter how far weāve wandered or how many times weāve fallen, God never stops calling us back.

| 14 |  St Monica reminds us that sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do for someone who has drifted from the faith is to keep praying for them. She tried to speak to Augustine about God, but he often brushed her aside. Still, she never stopped praying. For more than fifteen years, she entrusted her son to God. As St Ambrose encouraged her, she learned to āspeak less to Augustine about God and more to God about Augustine.ā
Her story reminds us that discipleship is more than following rules. Sometimes, it means being the face of Christ to someone who has lost their way, loving them patiently and praying for their conversion. Perhaps God is calling you to be a St Monica to someone in your life. You may not see the fruits of your prayers immediately, but keep trusting, loving and praying. God is always at work, even when we cannot see it. š

| 15 |  What does it really mean to be formed in our faith?
Formation isnāt about a one-off encounter with Jesus. Neither does it only concern retreats, programmes, or studying the Catechism. Formation is the continual growth that we experience as disciples of Christ. This happens when we build our lives on the Word of God ā when we meditate on it and allow it to guide us in our lives.
How can we dive deeper into the Word of God so that it forms us, shapes us, and becomes the light of our path as we navigate this modern world?

| 16 |  But honestly, how many times does it feel like you are? When friends start getting married, having children and building lives together, it can be hard not to wonder, āGod, what about me?ā Sometimes singleness can feel like standing on the sidelines while everyone else moves forward. But your life is not on pause. God has not forgotten you. There are people He wants you to meet, places He wants you to go, and ways He wants to work through you in this season. So instead of only asking, āWhen will my life change?ā perhaps ask, āLord, what are You inviting me into today?ā
And that doesnāt mean the ache of singleness isnāt real. It can hurt to desire something good and not know when it will come. But there are still friendships to nurture, places to explore, prayers to pray and ways God is shaping you right now. Maybe this season isnāt a consolation prize. Maybe itās a gift weāre still learning to receive. š

| 17 |  On this feast of St. Bartholomew, we remember an apostle whose love for Christ remained steadfast even when following Him came at an unimaginable cost. His witness reminds us that faith is not simply about believing in an idea, but about knowing, loving and choosing to follow Jesus.
We may not have walked alongside Jesus as the Apostles did, but He still invites us into a real relationship with Him today. In our joys, struggles, questions and uncertainties, may we turn to Him in prayer and, like St. Bartholomew, grow in the courage to follow Christ faithfully, trusting in His love.

| 18 |  Three years have passed since Serene lost her husband, Kel, during a family vacation. In her unexpected journey of grief, she has wrestled with questions for God, learned how to navigate life without the person she once shared it with and discovered how loss has changed her.
Yet, through the pain, Serene and her family have slowly discovered that grief and hope can exist side by side. In sharing her story, she reflects on the challenges of sudden loss, the ways God has met her in her darkest moments, and how, over the years, she has come to trust that God is indeed in control and is with her and her family amidst the suffering.

| 19 |  What do we do when we feel like weāre under a curse? Is there anything we can do to protect ourselves from evil?
It can be frightening to feel that something dark is being directed towards us, but as Christians, we are not called to respond with fear or hatred. We are called to turn towards God. As Fr. Fortea reminds us, āGood is always stronger than evil.ā This echoes Christās words: āBless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat youā (Luke 6:27ā28).
So when fear creeps in, may we draw closer to the Lord through prayer, Scripture, the Rosary and the Eucharist. Our hope is not in our own strength, but in Christ, who is greater than any darkness. Lord, keep us close to You, protect us from all evil, and teach us to respond to darkness with Your light. š
