Question (310): According to the Hanafi madhhab, is the testimony of fāsiqs acceptable in a marriage contract?
Answer (310): Yes, it is acceptable.

| 2 | Question (309): Is it permissible to play football, provided the rules of Sharia are observed?
Answer (309): What a strange and astonishing sight it is: twenty-two, or twelve, Muslims running after an inflated ball! This game is considered lahw (a futile pursuit that distracts a person from religion and beneficial affairs), and for this reason it is not permissible. If your aim is merely to run and be physically refreshed, make up for it with morning runs. Moreover, those who play football know well that in the tension of this game, unpleasant disputes and grievances occur even between two blood brothers.

Important note: The Sheikh is one of the few scholars who gives such a sharp ruling on football, and those who share this opinion are very few. Nevertheless, as someone who gave twenty years to this game, I can say in all sincerity that there is a great share of truth in the Sheikh's determination. Even among Muslims committed to their worship, very unpleasant incidents occur amid the excitement and tension of the game. On the other hand, the great majority of Islamic scholars state that playing football is permissible provided the rules of Sharia are observed. Therefore, it would be unjust to condemn someone who acts on this opinion. This matter remains a recognized (mu'tabar) disagreement in the science of fiqh, and neither side has the right to accuse the other. | 171 |

Answer (308): First, he should announce it at the place where he found the item. If, despite all efforts, the owner is not found, he should consult his heart. If his heart tells him that the owner will never return, he should either give the found item as sadaqah to someone in need, or use it himself if he is in need. However, if the true owner later appears and claims his right, the finder must compensate the loss in full.
