An old Arabic proverb reads:
حافظ على بيتك نظيفاً كانك تنتظر ضيوفاً،
وحافظ على قلبك نقيّاً كانك تنتظر الموت
Keep your home clean as though you are expecting guests. And keep your heart pure as though you are expecting death.

| 2 |  You could own the entire world, yet the moment death arrives, it will seem no more than a fleeting dream. The only lasting reality is the Hereafter. 'Umar ibn al-Khattāb (ر) is reported to have said:
لو أنّ الحياة الدُّنْيا من أوّلها إلى آخِرها أوتيها رجُل واحد، ثُمّ جاءهُ المَوْت: لكانَ بِمنزلةِ مَن رأى في منامِهِ ما يسره، ثُمّ استيقظ فإذا ليس في يده شيء
"If a person were given the entire dunya - from its beginning to its end - and then death came to him, it would be as if he saw in a dream something that pleased him, then awoke to find he had nothing in his hand."

| 3 | By directing one's focus to the less fortunate, a person preserves gratitude and protects the heart from underestimating the immense favours of Allāh. The Prophet ﷺ said:
انظروا إلى من هو أسفلَ منكم ولا تنظروا إلى من هو فوقَكم، فإنه أجدَرُ أن لا تزدَروا نعمةَ اللهِ عليكم
"Observe those beneath you [in worldly matters], and do not consider those above you, for that is likely to prevent you from belittling the blessings of Allāh upon you."

| 5 | A believer's greatest asset lies in soliciting divine support before his/her own meagre efforts. When Allāh is with you, no force can withstand you. And it was part of the supplication of the Prophet ﷺ:
رَبِّ أعِنِّي ولا تُعِنْ عليَّ، وانصُرْني ولا تنصُرْ عليَّ، وامكُرْ لي ولا تمكُرْ عليَّ، واهْدِني ويَسِّرْ هُدايَ إليَّ...
"My Rabb, aid me and do not aid against me. Grant me victory and do not grant victory over me. Plan in my favour and do not plot against me. Guide me, and facilitate guidance for me..."
• أبو داود (1510)، والترمذي (3551)

| 13 | The Prophet ﷺ heard a man supplicating:
اللهم إني أسألك بأنّي أشهدُ أَنَّكَ أَنتَ اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ الأحد الصمد، الذي لم يلد ولم يولد ولم يكن لَهُ كفوا أحد
"O Allāh, I ask You because I bear witness that You are Allāh. There is no deity but You; the One [ahad], the Eternal Refuge [samad]; the One who neither begets nor is begotten, and to whom none is comparable."
Upon hearing this, the Prophet ﷺ said:

| 17 | 👆🏼This narration highlights two of the most significant fasts outside of Ramadān. Allāh has placed immense spiritual cleansing within small, easy and accessible acts of worship tied to sacred time periods.
As for the upcoming 'Āshūrā, the Prophet ﷺ encouraged fasting 10th of Muharram, and preferably the 9th (Tāsu'ā) as well in order to differ from the practice of the previous nation. | 227 |

صِيامُ يومِ عَرَفَةَ، إِنِّي أحْتَسِبُ على اللهِ أنْ يُكَفِّرَ السنَةَ التي قَبلَهُ، والسنَةَ التي بَعدَهُ، وصِيامُ يومِ عاشُوراءَ، إِنِّي أحْتَسِبُ على اللهِ أنْ يُكَفِّرَ السنَةَ التِي قَبْلَهُ
"Fasting the Day of 'Arafah, I anticipate from Allāh that it expiate the sins of the year before it and the year after it. And fasting the Day of 'Āshūrā, I anticipate from Allāh that it expiate the sins of the year before it."

| 19 | Tangible wisdom shows up in decision-making and how one handles real-life challenges. Sound minds usually reflect sound outcomes and not eloquent tongues. Sufyān ibn 'Uyaynah (d.198H) said:
لا تنظروا إلى عقل الرجل في كلامه؛
ولكن انظروا إلى عقله في مخارج أموره!
"Do not assess a man's intellect by his words; rather, assess his intellect by how he resolves matters."
