To be clear: this is a vulnerability in PHP itself, not in Drupal, and it affects a huge share of the web. The Drupal Steward protection service is unaffected and continues to run, but does NOT mitigate this upstream PHP issue.

That viral "$80.7 Billion Anthropic Loss" post is everywhere today, so here is the 10-second truth from Anthropic's leaked S-1 IPO filing:
Headline Net Loss: $80.7 Billion
Non-Cash Convertible Note Valuation Adjustment: $72.0 Billion
Actual H1 Operating Loss: $8.7 Billion
H1 2026 Revenue: $16.3 Billion (up 15x from $1.1B last year)
Q3 2026 Revenue Alone: $16.8 Billion (+45% quarter-over-quarter)
They are now past a $65 Billion annualized revenue run rate, driven almost entirely by developers and teams running Claude Code and Opus/Sonnet 5.5 in production.

| 11 |  Nearly 30% of STEM PhD dissertation abstracts submitted in the US during the first five months of 2026 contained AI-generated text, according to a new working paper.
📈 The proportion rose sharply from 1.7% in 2023 to 18.8% in 2025, reaching 29.4% in early 2026.
💻 AI-generated abstracts were most common in mathematics and computer science, accounting for 36% of the abstracts analysed.
🏭 Among graduates who completed their undergraduate degrees in the US, those with AI-generated dissertation abstracts were 16% more likely to work in industry and 17% less likely to work in academia than those without AI-generated abstracts.
🧠 The findings raise important questions about research training, independent thinking, scientific writing and the responsible use of generative AI.
⚠️ Important caveat: These findings show an association, not proof that AI use causes a particular career outcome. The underlying working paper has not yet been peer-reviewed, and AI-generated text in an abstract does not necessarily reflect how much AI a student used throughout their research.
💡 The big question: Is AI helping PhD students become more productive researchers, or could over-reliance on AI weaken the critical thinking and originality essential for scientific discovery?
Perhaps the real challenge is not whether PhD students should use AI, but how to use it without outsourcing the thinking that makes them scientists.

| 13 |  Two critical vulnerabilities have been identified in PHP, a widely used programming language that powers websites and web applications. These vulnerabilities (CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619) could allow malicious cyber actors to remotely execute code in PHP core, potentially compromising sensitive data and networks.
The FBI urges organizations to take the following steps now:
➡️ If an immediate update is not feasible it is recommended that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated.
➡️ Immediately update affected PHP installations following the guidance on php.net. Inventory where PHP runs in your environment, prioritizing internet-facing systems and vendor products that bundle PHP.
➡️ Monitor web servers for suspicious activity, including PHP processes unexpectedly launching command shells or downloading files. Ensure appropriate process-monitoring capabilities are in place to help identify potential exploitation.
➡️ If you find signs of compromise, isolate affected systems, preserve your web server and PHP logs, and report it to your local FBI field office or www.ic3.gov. Those reports help us identify the actors involved and warn other organizations before they become victims.
