SKOJ SUBMITS A LETTER OF PROTEST TO THE TURKISH EMBASSY
EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF TÜRKİYE
IN THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA
Subject: Letter of Protest Regarding the Arrest of SKOJ First Secretary Miloš Karavezić and Other Participants of an International Youth Conference
Dear Sir/Madam,
The League of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia (SKOJ) expresses its strongest protest regarding the arrest of SKOJ First Secretary, Miloš Karavezić, as well as other participants of an international youth conference held in the Republic of Türkiye.
According to the information available to us, Miloš Karavezić was arrested on 1 July 2026 during a police operation carried out at an internal gathering of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform. Approximately twenty participants were detained during the operation, including members of the international delegation and Turkish youth activists. We express our serious concern over reports that the detainees are facing accusations of terrorist activities, despite the fact that they were participating in an academic and political event dedicated to discussions, seminars, and international cooperation.
We believe that such actions constitute a serious restriction of the freedoms of thought, expression, association, and peaceful assembly—rights guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Türkiye as well as by the international obligations assumed by the Republic of Türkiye through its ratification of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
We are particularly concerned about the situation of Serbian citizen Miloš Karavezić and expect that he will be afforded all rights to which he is entitled under Turkish law and international law, including unrestricted access to legal counsel, the ability to communicate with his family, and the full exercise of his right to consular protection by the Republic of Serbia.
We call upon the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in the Republic of Serbia to forward this letter of protest to the competent authorities of the Republic of Türkiye and to inform them of the serious concern that this case has raised.
At the same time, we demand:
that Miloš Karavezić and all other detained participants be guaranteed all rights provided under domestic and international law;
that they be granted unrestricted access to their lawyers and consular representatives;
that the competent authorities urgently review the legal grounds for their detention;
that Miloš Karavezić and the other conference participants be released immediately if there are no lawful and substantiated grounds for their continued detention.
SKOJ remains committed to defending democratic rights and freedoms and will continue to inform the domestic and international public, as well as international organizations and progressive political and youth movements, about this case.
We expect the competent authorities of the Republic of Türkiye to act in accordance with their own laws and international obligations, in the interest of protecting human rights and upholding the rule of law.

Turkish authorities have detained Russian activists from the DPRK Solidarity Group in Istanbul.
Police raided a youth camp organised by the World Anti-Imperialist Platform in the suburbs of Istanbul, detaining a total of 20 activists, including two Russian citizens – Alexander Mostov and Darya Kadkina – who are activists with the International Solidarity Group with the DPRK (ISG-DPRK).
According to the Platform, police raided the youth camp at 3.00am on 1 July and subsequently detained 20 people – including members of international delegations and Turkish activists – around 8.00am. They are currently being held at the Çanakkale police station.
According to the Solidarity Group, the detainees have been charged with "promoting terrorism", an offence that could carry a penalty of up to five years in prison.

| 6 |  FREEDOM FOR COMRADE MILOŠ KARAVEZIĆ!
The First Secretary of the League of the Communist Youth of Yugoslavia SKOJ (the youth organisation of the New Communist Party of Yugoslavia), comrade Miloš Karavezić, was arrested near Istanbul at approximately 3.00am on 1 July during an internal anti-Nato conference.
Erdogan's authorities raided the camp of the World Anti-Imperialist Platform, where youth organisations were gathered. At around 8.00am, they violently and unlawfully detained approximately twenty people, including members of the international delegation and Turkish youth activists, among them the First Secretary of SKOJ, Comrade Miloš Karavezić.
All those detained are currently being held at the police station in Çanakkale, where they face accusations of alleged terrorist activities.
This is part of an organised campaign of preventive arrests carried out under the pretext of protecting national security.
From midnight on 28 June until midnight on 10 July, all public gatherings, demonstrations, street marches, press conferences, leaflet distribution and the display of banners have been banned in Ankara and in the areas surrounding Nato military bases. The main access routes to the airport, the area surrounding the summit venue, and the zones where the delegations are accommodated have been placed under the complete control of the military and police.
The actions of the Turkish authorities are contrary to the Constitution of the Republic of Türkiye, which guarantees freedom of thought and academic freedom. They are likewise in violation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, ratified by Türkiye in 2003, which guarantees freedom of thought and freedom of expression.
SKOJ and New Communist Party of Yugoslavia (NKPJ) will inform the World Anti-Imperialist Platform, Sovintern, the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY), the international communist movement, as well as other progressive organizations and individuals around the world, in order to build international pressure for the immediate release of Comrade Miloš Karavezić and all other detained activists.
Comrade Miloš Karavezić is a principled patriot, internationalist, and political activist who has never been convicted of any crime or violated the law.
His detention clearly demonstrates the political nature of this repression and the character of a regime that, under the pretext of combating terrorism, criminalises political opinion and international solidarity.
SKOJ demands that Erdogan's government immediately and unconditionally release Comrade Miloš Karavezić and all other conference participants.
We strongly condemn the violent, unlawful and brutal arrest of the participants during the raid on an event that was internal, peaceful, and organised in accordance with its intended purpose.
This action by the Turkish authorities once again reveals the dictatorial nature of Erdogan's regime, which no longer tolerates even internal political discussion and criticism of the Nato alliance. If compassion drives the Venezuelan government’s and the Latin American peoples’ response, the same cannot be said of US imperialism, for which concern for humanity has been displaced by the motives of profit, expropriation and domination, and which has so often sought to turn the misfortune of others to its own advantage.
The day following the earthquake, secretary of state Marco Rubio coolly announced that the Department of War, Southcom, and the marines would be central to the USA’s “aid” effort.
We have seen this playbook before. Following Haiti’s devastating 2010 earthquake, the barely disguised Trojan horse of US ‘humanitarian assistance’ arrived in the form of an aircraft carrier and some 20,000 troops on the ground.
The consequences of that de facto occupation in the Haitian case included an obvious loss of sovereignty, documented cases of sexual assault and exploitation, and the cholera epidemic brought by the occupying forces.
In the face of imperialism’s designs, the voice of the Venezuelan revolutionary people is united around three demands: the USA must lift the sanctions completely, unfreeze all Venezuelan assets, and return President Maduro and Cilia Flores to Venezuela.
If these steps are not taken, the US presence looks quite a bit like a simple military occupation – an integral part of the recolonising ambitions expressed by Donald Trump’s Maga imperialism, with its grotesque revival of the Monroe Doctrine.

Directed by Wanda Jakubowska – a communist, resistance fighter and survivor of Auschwitz – the film was among the first cinematic depictions of the Nazi concentration camps and the organised resistance that developed within them.
Several Auschwitz survivors appear in the film, portraying roles closely connected to their own experiences just a few years after the liberation, adding a rare and powerful layer of direct testimony to its reconstruction of events.
Produced in postwar people’s democratic Poland and filmed partly on location at Auschwitz itself, The Last Stage stands as both historical testimony and a forceful affirmation of the role played by communists in the struggle against fascism and genocide.
At a time when our ruling class seeks to discredit communists and anti-imperialists as “antisemitic” for expressing solidarity with oppressed peoples and resisting imperialist war, occupation, sanctions and national oppression, this screening reasserts a clear historical record: communists were at the forefront of the struggle against racism, fascism, colonialism and war.
This event forms part of the party’s wider cultural and political work to defend historical memory, strengthen proletarian internationalism and uphold the struggle for liberation everywhere.
