SPHMMC Honors Professor Mark Topazian for Dedicated service St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) has honored Professor Mark Topazian for his more than eight years of volunteer service and outstanding contribution to strengthening Gastroenterology and Endoscopy care in Ethiopia. Speaking at an appreciation ceremony, SPHMMC Provost Dr. Muluken Tesfaye praised Professor Mark for his unwavering commitment to improving clinical services, medical education,research, mentorship, and specialist training at the College. Professor Mark, a renowned gastroenterologist and Yale School of Medicine graduate, has over three decades of experience in advanced endoscopy, gastrointestinal cancers, biliary tract diseases, and pancreatic disorders. Through his volunteer service, he has played a vital role in enhancing patient care and building local expertise in the field. In recognition of his dedication SPHMMC leadership and the Department of Gastroenterology presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation. The ceremony was attended by Vice provosts and senior management members and department heads, and staff members of the Gastroenterology Department.

ከጤና ሚኒስቴር የተሠጠ መግለጫ በአፍሪካ ስለተከሰተው ኢቦላ ቫይረስ በሽታ እና በኢትዮጵያ እየተደረጉ ያሉ የቅድመ ዝግጅት ስራዎች ግንቦት 17 ፣ 2018 ዓ.ም የዓለም ጤና ድርጅት (WHO) በግንቦት 09 ፣ 2018 ዓ.ም ባወጣው መግለጫ በዲሞክራቲክ ሪፐብሊክ ኦፍ ኮንጎ (DRC) እና በዩጋንዳ በቡንዲቡግዮ (Bundibugio) ቫይረስ ዝርያ የሚመጣ የኢቦላ ቫይረስ በሽታ መከሰቱን ያሳወቀ ሲሆን እስከ ትላንት ግንቦት 16፣ 2018 ድረስ በእነዚሁ ሀገራት በአጠቃላይ ከ101 በላይ የሚሆኑ በላቦራቶሪ የተረጋገጡ ታማሚዎች እና ከ900 በላይ ንክኪ ያላቸው ተጠርጣሪዎች የህክምና ክትትል ላይ ይገኛሉ። የኢቦላ ቫይረስ በሽታ ከፍተኛ የስርጭት እና የሞት ምጣኔ ያለው በሽታ ሲሆን ከሰው ወደ ሰው በንክኪ በቀላሉ ይተላለፋል። እስከዛሬ ድረስ በሃገራችን ኢትዮጵያ ምንም አይነት በኢቦላ ቫይረስ በሽታ የተጠረጠረ ወይም የታመመ ሰው አልተገኘም። ምንም እንኳን በሽታው ከተገኘባቸው አገራት ጋር ቀጥተኛ የድንበር ግንኙነት ባይኖረንም የበሽታውን አደገኛነት በመገንዘብ የዓለም ጤና ድርጅት (WHO) እና የአፍሪካ በሽታ ቁጥጥርና መከላከል ማዕከል (Africa CDC) የወረርሽኙን መከሰት ይፋ ካደረገበት ጊዜ ጀምሮ የጤና ሚኒስቴር ከኢትዮጵያ የሕብረተሰብ ጤና ኢንስቲትዩት ጋር በመተባበር ፦ - በሁሉም አለም አቀፍ የየብስ መግቢያ እና መውጫ ኬላዎች የልየታ እና የቅኝት ስራዎች በማጠናከር ፣ - በአለም አቀፍ አየር ማረፊያዎች የተጠናከረ ክትትል በማድረግ ፣ - የጤና ተቋማት ዝግጁ በማድረግ እንዲሁም የላቦራቶሪ አቅምን በማሳደግ - እንዲሁም አስፈላጊው የህክምና ግብአት አቅርቦት ላይ የተጠናከረ የቅድመ ዝግጅት ስራዎችን እያከናወነ ይገኛል።

SPHMMC to Establish Advanced Nursing Skill Lab St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening nursing education and clinical training through establishing an advanced nursing skill laboratory aimed at enhancing hands-on training and workforce capacity. Today, Provost Dr.Muluken Tesfaye held discussions with Sr. Mekdes Abebe, President and Founder of the Ethiopian Diaspora Nurses and Other Health Professionals Association (EDNOHPA) in the United States, on the establishment of the skill lab at the College. The discussions focused on strengthening practical nursing education and improving workforce competency through modern, skill-based training facilities designed to enhance clinical performance and service delivery. The meeting was attended by SPHMMC Vice Provosts Dr. Lemi Belay and Dr. Ewnet Gebrehana, as well as Sr. Nigat from the SPHMMC Nursing School. The initiative is expected to further support SPHMMC’s vision of becoming a nursing-based Center of Excellence. The College has already launched a Nursing Residency Program as part of its continued commitment to delivering high-quality education, advanced training, and professional healthcare standards. Today, the state-of-the-art facility was handed over to the EDNOHPA for outfitting with the latest nursing simulation equipment and co-creation of advanced training modules.

SPHMMC’s AaBET Hospital Conducts Disaster Preparedness Drill St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College’s AaBET Hospital conducted a disaster preparedness drill to strengthen emergency response coordination and readiness for mass-casualty incidents. The exercise brought together multidisciplinary teams from the Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Emergency Medical Teams (EMT), and specialized surgical units including Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Media and family liaison teams also participated to strengthen crisis communication. The initiative combined expert-led lectures with a tabletop simulation that tested triage systems, patient flow, emergency coordination, and communication during a hypothetical disaster scenario. The organizer of the drill said the exercise aimed to improve rapid response capacity, teamwork, and emergency preparedness while identifying areas for improvement in coordination and crisis communication. AaBET Hospital reaffirmed its commitment to continuous preparedness training to ensure effective and compassionate emergency care for the community.

SPHMMC,Reach Another Foundation Move to Advance Pediatric Neurosurgery Care in Ethiopia St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College and Reach Another Foundation have initiated a partnership aimed at establishing a Center of Excellence and launching a specialized fellowship program to strengthen pediatric neurosurgery care in Ethiopia. The discussion was held between SPHMMC Provost Dr. Muluken Tesfaye and Dr. Patricia O'Neill,International prisdant of.Reachanother foundation and Dr. Yakob Seman,,Ethiopian Country director of.Reachanother foundation, focusing on expanding specialized neurosurgical services and training opportunities at the institution. The meeting was attended by SPHMMC Vice Provost Dr. Jemal Shifa and Dr. Daniel Sebhat,Head of the Neurosurgery dept. Discussions centered on strengthening collaboration with the Neurosurgery team at SPHMMC through advanced training, institutional partnership, and service expansion. The two institutions also discussed a shared vision to establish a dedicated pediatric neurosurgery service capable of delivering high-quality specialized care for children with complex neurological conditions. The partnership is expected to improve access to specialized pediatric neurosurgical services while contributing to the training of future pediatric neurosurgeons in Ethiopia and across the region. Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to long-term collaboration aimed at advancing pediatric neurosurgery care and medical education.
