Advancing Early Detection of Birth Defects at SPHMMC The Pediatric Surgery Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) recently trained nurses and midwives working in delivery rooms, obstetric operating theaters, and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit on newborn screening for structural birth defects. Using a validated clinical checklist, participants learned how to identify more than 20 congenital anomalies. The training also included hands‑on practice to strengthen screening skills. This initiative helps ensure that surgically correctable birth defects are recognized at birth, before symptoms and complications develop. Early diagnosis and timely treatment improve neonatal survival rates and give newborns a better chance at a healthy life.

Advancing Educational Quality at SPHMMC St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) has conducted a series of initiatives to strengthen teaching and learning, including Effective Teaching Skills, Academic Document Validation, and Outcome-Based Curriculum Training.
