Today, the Ethiopian Association of Anesthetists (EAA) proudly joins the global community in celebrating 180 years of modern anesthesia.
This year’s global theme—"Before, During, and Beyond Surgery: Anaesthesiology Along the Patient Pathway" reflects the current practice of anesthesia in our country since its conception in the early 1970s. Anesthesia care is not confined to the operating room. From preoperative optimization and intraoperative vigilance to postoperative recovery, pain management, and critical care units, Ethiopian anesthesia professionals are there every step of the way.
To our dedicated professionals involved in the clinical environment, teaching future professionals, and trainees working tirelessly across every corner of Ethiopia: Thank you for saving lives and championing patient safety!

| 3 | Dear Esteemed Anesthesiologists and all anesthesia care providers across the world, I want to express my shared appreciation for your hard work to improve patient outcome in the perioperative period.
The role of anaesthesiologists across pre operative care, intra op management, intensive care, pain management, and palliative care is incredible.
From first contact through recovery and long term follow up, patients come to anaesthesiologists at multiple stages of their care journey. Anaesthesiology care extends across diverse healthcare settings and it needs for strong, well supported anaesthesia services to build resilient, patient centred health systems.
Without having strong anesthesia services, it's difficult for the health care system to give standard, fair and equitable health service for the community.
In general Anesthesiologists are the center of gravity for the peri operative care and beyond to bring better patient outcome.

16 October | One Profession. One Shared Responsibility.
On this special day, I extend my sincere appreciation to all anaesthesiologists, anaesthetists, residents, mentors, educators, and the wider anaesthesia community across Africa and around the world.
Anaesthesia is far more than administering medications or supporting surgery. It is the science of sustaining life, the commitment to anticipating danger, and the responsibility of protecting patients when they are most vulnerable.
Before anaesthesia, we prepare. During anaesthesia, we protect. After anaesthesia, we continue to care.
Much of our work happens behind the scenes, but its impact is profound. Every complication prevented, every life protected, and every moment of suffering relieved reflects the true value of our profession.
As we celebrate our achievements, let us also renew our commitment to quality education, mentorship, patient safety, professional collaboration, and equitable access to safe anaesthesia care regardless of where a patient lives or the resources available.
Safe anaesthesia is not a privilege; it is an essential component of quality healthcare.

The Third SPHMMC Clinical Nexus was a distinguished scientific and clinical endeavor, featuring an extraordinary case of a complex DSD case involving Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Endocrinology & Child Health, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and Nursing Care.
The case journey:

| 20 | Saint Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) and People to People USA (P2P) have agreed to strengthen strategic collaboration to build Ethiopia’s national health capability.
In a discussion, Dr. Muluken Tesfaye, Provost of SPHMMC, and Dr. Anteneh Habte, Chairman of the Board of P2P, focused on moving from mission-based contribution to sustainable, structured fellowship programs in sub-specialty and superspecialty medical education.
Both leaders committed to making SPHMMC a regional center of excellence in medical education, clinical service, and research. The partnership will work through collaboration and synergy with the kind-hearted Ethiopian diaspora and global volunteer experts.
The goal is to replace short-term, fragmented efforts with accredited, mentored, locally owned fellowships; train-the-trainer models; faculty development; research capacity; and retention of Ethiopian talents. P2P will serve as a bridge to diaspora and international expertise, while SPHMMC will serve as a national hub for sub-specialty and superspecialty training.
Dr. Muluken Tesfaye said: “This is a deliberate shift from mission-based contribution to sustainable, structured fellowship programs. It is how we build national capability and move SPHMMC toward regional excellence.”
Dr. Anteneh Habte said: “The Ethiopian diaspora and global experts have the heart and the expertise. P2P is committed to providing a structured, mission-aligned platform to support SPHMMC.”
Strengthening SPHMMC will improve access to advanced care, reduce outmigration, and create future educators and leaders.
The aim is to turn diaspora goodwill and global expertise into a durable national asset.
