A PROSTITUTE TURNED DOMINICAN MYSTIC Servant of God Caterina Vannini --- Today is the death anniversary of the Servant of God Caterina Vannini. She was an Italian Dominican “Convertite” nun. During her youth, she went to Rome and there she prostituted herself to many men. She was imprisoned and sent back to Siena. There, after listening to a homily about the Magdalene, she got converted. She joined the Dominicans and became a mystic who experienced visions, locutions, and ecstasies.

The DoJ has settled its case with pro-life advocate Paul Vaughn, who was wrongfully arrested for praying for an end to abortion on charges of hindering access to abortion facilities due to the immense power his prayers had in preventing abortions in Tennessee. The Federal Government has agreed to pay him at least one million dollars for the trouble he was put through over the past four years. 22 more pro-life advocates are expected to receive major payouts in future settlements for prayer-motivated arrests, due to their prayers creating measurable reductions in abortion sales at Planned Parenthood and other abortion companies.

JULY 30: THE GOLDEN-TONGUED DOCTOR Saint Petrus Chrysologus Bishop and Doctor of the Church Died: 450 --- He was a bishop and is one of the 38 Doctors of the Church. His name "chrysologus," which means "golden-tongued" or "golden-worded," was given to him due to his eloquence in preaching. He deliberately made his homilies short because he did not want to bore those who were listening to him. He condemned Arianism (which denied Christ’s divinity) and Monophysitism (which taught that Jesus had only one nature).

JULY 30: THE APOSTLE OF CONFESSION AND UNITY Saint Leopoldo of Castelnuovo Priest Died: 1942 --- He was a Montenegrin (Dalmatian) Capuchin priest. His original name was Bogdan Ivan Mandic. He was known for his zeal for Christian unity and to the ministry of reconciliation. He collaborated in the reunification with the Orthodox Church, but this did not come true. He dedicated himself above all to the ministry of confession. For nearly forty years, twelve hours a day, he absolved and counselled thousands of penitents.

A Czech court is considering rehabilitating Cardinal Trochta, a Salesian cleric who was wrongfully imprisoned by Communists in the 1950s.

JULY 30: SAINT DOMINIC'S BROTHER Blessed Manes de Guzman Priest Died: 1234 --- He was a Spanish Dominican priest. He was the brother of St. Dominic, founder of the Dominican Order. and the son of Bl. Juana de Aza. He was among the first 16 members of the Dominicans. He was sent to Paris, and he established the order there. The people loved him for being very approachable. He was still alive when St. Dominic (who was younger than him) got canonized. He built a small chapel in honor of his younger brother.

JULY 30: SHE HELPED THE ENEMIES OF THE CHURCH Blessed Maria Vicenta of St. Dorothy Religious Virgin and Founder Died: 1949 --- She was a Mexican nun and founder. Her original name was Vicenta Chavez Orozco. She established the Servants of the Holy Trinity and the Poor. The people lovingly called her “Vicentita.” Serving the sick poor for her was a way to glorify God. During the Mexican Revolution, the wounded soldiers who persecuted the Catholic Church took refuge in her hospital. Even if they were the enemies of Christ, she chose to help and treat them.

The Society of Jesus has announced that it plans to close 3 of its 5 US novitiates, where it trains its novices in the United States.

It's time to highlight a great Catholic scientist: Louis Pasteur, inventor of pasteurization, prayed while he worked. He had "absolute faith in God and in Eternity," and said

He not only invented pasteurization to resolve the spoiling of drinks, but also identified the problem in the first place, the lesser-known Pasteur effect. He is known as the father of bacteriology and microbiology and one of the discoverers of germ theory.

A MODEL SEMINARIAN Venerable Bruno Marchesini --- Today is the death anniversary of Ven. Bruno Marchesini. He was an Italian seminarian who died before he could be ordained to the priesthood. Although he was very lively, he never gave a cause for reprimand and was admired for his piety, humility, and modesty. He also got high grades in his subjects. He lived-out the three “s”, smile, seriousness, and service, Sadly, he died due to meningitis. He was only 22 years old.

JULY 29: HOLY NORWEGIAN KING Saint Olaf II Haraldsson Married Layperson Died: 1030 --- He was a married layperson and martyr who reigned as the king of Norway. He organized the kingdom according to the laws and customs of Christians. He destroyed paganism and idolatry. He built churches and brought in Catholic priests from England. With him, the Anglo-Saxon ecclesiastical law began to be applied in Norway. During his reign, Norway enjoyed a period of economic prosperity. He was killed by pagans during a battle.
