Advice for the Husband and Wife The believer should have good character with his family, and speak gently with them. He shouldn’t be rude, harsh, or frown upon his family. He shouldn’t use bad speech, nor be bad company. He must perform usual duties towards his wife and give her the rights granted to women of her status such as in her clothing and so on. The wife should also fear Allah and use good words with her husband and be a good company. She should answer him if he invites her to his bed, obey him and listen to his commands which are not legally forbidden. She should have good manners with him, his parents and family. This is what a righteous woman is keen to do. If this is their interaction, then their relationship will be stable but if either of them fall short, then resentment will build up between them.
