This second video is really the epitome of faith. We are not guaranteed a carefree and painless life in Christ. Far from it. Bad things still happen, and death can come to the unbeliever as well as the believer. If everything in life was perfect, there would be no reason for a savior. We wouldn’t need God at all. But when trial and tragedy comes, what do we do with it? How do we reconcile the allowance of that trial in our lives? We remember that this life as we know it is a drop in the bucket compared to an ocean of eternity in heaven in the presence of God. We are secure in our faith, knowing God is with us in the tragedy as well as in the joy of life’s events. Praising God in the midst of tragedy is one of the most dangerous and effective weapons you have against the enemy. It sends a message that no matter what the devil can throw at you in the middle of the fray, you are making it clear where you stand. You are stating; ā€œI shall not be moved.ā€ Take a look at this video and see how the enemy thought he won but foolishly found out otherwise. ā€œThough the fig tree may not blossom, Nor fruit be on the vines; Though the labor of the olive may fail, And the fields yield no food; Though the flock may be cut off from the fold, And there be no herd in the stalls— Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength; He will make my feet like deer’s feet, And He will make me walk on my high hills.ā€ Habakkuk 3:17-19

Testimony Tuesday I came across this encouraging video and as I watched it I was reminded of a co-worker now close friend whom I’ve always looked up to because she carried this gentle and quiet presence of God without ever mentioning Christ or God. I just knew she had to be a Christian. She came into my life at a time when I was going through a dark season in my personal life where I had temporarily put God on the back shelf for a while after a traumatic end to my nearly 27 year marriage. (Yes I know, that’s hard to believe but I did, but thank God He was so patient with me) There was something different about her. We happen to have the same name, and we hit it off and have remained close friends since. She lives about an hour and half away from me in a small town called Sweet Home, Oregon. Even the town’s name implies her character. She truly carried the fragrance of Christ. I’ve never really understood the meaning behind the ā€œfragrance of Christ until I met my friend and saw it up close and personal years ago. God truly used her to bring me back to Him. Slowly, I began to heal after witnessing the sweet aroma of Jesus upon her. The ā€œfragranceā€ of Christ she carried and emitted was refreshingly powerful and yet gentle at the same time. I like to say she was ā€œPackin’ Sweetā€ā€”she definitely had an ā€œOpen Carryā€ kind of faith if you will…a faith like I’ve never seen before. And I wanted that for me. Folks, no matter where you are in life, if you are a child of God, You carry His presence. People will know and remember how you made them feel. They will just know something about you is different. The gentle and quiet spirit of the Lord that others see in you carries that fragrance of Christ. People can’t help but notice it. May the fragrance of Christ be found in you that will draw others to Him. Blessings —Paula @CallToBattle ā€œNow thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.ā€ II Corinthians 2:14 ā€œDo not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.ā€ I Peter 3:3-4

Me: ā€œLord, what do You want me to know today?ā€ God: ā€œThere is no one who loves you more than I do. When I give you a promise through My Word, I will always keep it. ā€œDo not be deceived by the one who seeks to destroy your allegiance to Me. He will twist My truths and use them to his advantage as he attempts to manipulate your heart. Stand firm on the foundation I laid for you at Calvary through the death and resurrection of My Son, Jesus Christ. You will be tested time and again as you live out your faith for My Name’s sake. Darkness will not overtake the one who uses My Word as a weapon of defense in times of spiritual warfare. Never fear anything that threatens to undo you; instead, see it for what it is—a snare of the enemy. Then, pray about it in the powerful Name of Jesus, and victory will be yours.ā€ Ps. 60:12 (NIV) ~ ā€œWith God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.ā€

UPDATE on Jackie: An update from Ojai Raptor Center this morning. They are still waiting on results for any sign of lead, zinc or rodenticide levels. Jackie is anemic and has inflammation affecting her kidneys. They are unsure of the underlying issue causing these symptoms. The center is working with several specialist veterinarians to determine the best supportive care for the moment. We loved hearing that Jackie has more energy this morning. She is mad and fighting the staff… That’s our Jackie, a strong and mighty eagle! She is eating well with assistance and is even picking up food on her own. She is still standing up and perching. They did do x-rays and there were no fishing hooks, sinkers or other metal objects observed. We will keep updating you the minute we hear any new information. Thank you for your support, well wishes to Jackie and the entire eagle family. Keep the positive energy and prayers coming. The FOBBV Team

Not necessarily a testimony today, I didn’t write this but I thought this was worthy to share.šŸ‘‡šŸ¼ Have you ever noticed that one of the most encouraging things Jesus ever did was not a miracle, a sermon, or even a resurrection? It was being honest. I think sometimes we accidentally create this picture of faith where a "good Christian" is supposed to smile, never question anything, never struggle, never feel overwhelmed, and certainly never tell God that something hurts. We imagine faith means standing there with everything falling apart around us and saying, "Everything is fine!" while the emotional equivalent of a barn fire is raging behind us. Then we get to the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus knew exactly what was coming. He knew the betrayal was coming. He knew the arrest was coming. He knew the beating, the mocking, the nails, and the cross were coming. And what did He do? He prayed. And His prayer was not, "This is great. I am having a wonderful time." His prayer was, "My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me." In other words, if there is another way, I would very much prefer that option. Yet in the very next breath He says, "Nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will." That is not a lack of faith. That is faith. Faith is not pretending you don't have preferences. Faith is not pretending something doesn't hurt. Faith is not pretending you aren't afraid. Faith is bringing all of those things to God and then trusting Him anyway. Then comes the cross. As Jesus hangs there, He cries out, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" People sometimes read that and wonder if Jesus was doing something wrong by asking that question. I don't think so. First, He was quoting Psalm 22, a prophecy written centuries before His birth that describes the suffering of the Messiah with incredible detail. But second, the pain was real. The suffering was real. The weight He was carrying was real. The Son of God was not pretending. And maybe that is what I find so comforting. Because sometimes Christians seem to think that asking God "why" is somehow evidence of weak faith. Yet Jesus Himself cried out in anguish. He Himself asked if there was another way. He Himself brought His pain before the Father. The problem was never the question. The problem would have been refusing God's answer. There is a difference between saying, "Lord, I don't understand," and saying, "Lord, I won't obey." Jesus did the first. He never did the second. Maybe that is a reminder some of us need today. God is not shocked by your questions. He is not surprised by your grief. He is not wringing His hands in Heaven because you admitted that what you are carrying is heavy. Sometimes faith looks less like standing on a mountaintop shouting victory and more like kneeling in a garden at night saying, "Lord, I don't want this. I don't understand this. This hurts." And then getting up and taking the next step anyway. That is exactly what Jesus did. And because He did, there is hope for the rest of us when we find ourselves in our own Gethsemane moments. —Farmer Girl

Testimony Tuesday When I was a young child about six or seven years old, my father would pick up my brother and I up and take us to mass on some Sundays. At that time I didn’t know what mass was much less who God was. All I knew and believed was that God lived in the church. Or so I thought. I never saw him, but I just knew he was there. I also believed God truly only loved little children under the age of five, because the song ā€œJesus Loves Meā€ was for the innocent, the ones that didn’t know any better. In my childlike mind, God was this old grandpa figure, always angry and disappointed. That was the idea of God I had. I grew up believing I always had to be on my best behavior, follow the rules but didn’t understand why or know anything about God. It was just tradition in my family. You go to church or mass and followed all the motions and just watch what everyone else did, then do the same. I suppose going to church made you feel good about yourself. The guilt was taken away if you just attended the service. I was never taught that God loved me. I believed God had more of a punitive nature than a loving nature. I also believed God had favorites, and if I didn’t behave, I was not his favorite. It wasn’t until we had a pastor and his wife Judy move next door to us that changed my imagery and idea of who God was and begin to learn His true nature and what He thought of me. Fast forward many years. I found out the church building isn’t where God lived, and that tradition doesn’t save you. God is not interested in our performance. He doesn’t keep an attendance record or score card. And, no matter how many times I went to church, it didn’t change the fact that I still needed a Savior to take on the punishment of sin, that I deserved. Instead I found out that God looked upon me with such profound love that He invited me into His kingdom. He took me as I was; confused, imperfect, struggling, shameful, even wrong theology, and the list goes on. The beautiful and simple fact is, is that Jesus already paid the price for me. He took on what I deserved. I didn’t have to get my act together to accept Him. I didn’t have to attend church or mass to make me whole. I didn’t have to perform good deeds to earn my way to His heart. He already loved me enough to make a way possible. I found out that the god I believed in as a child was a distortion and an active imagination. It wasn’t real to me anymore. All I needed to do was believe what the Bible said about Him and accept His invitation to His offer. After that, my heart began to gravitate towards Him until I completely surrendered my life. That’s it! I am so grateful He pursued me and never gave up on me. He has been my Father, my Husband, my Companion, my Confidant and my Savior since. Wherever you are in your walk with Jesus, whether you are a seasoned believer or a brand new believer, God invites us to enter each day with Him. He’s not a one time free pass God that gives out temporary permits that he can revoke when you screw up. Oh no He’s not! He is the only God who loves fully and completely while pursuing us to show us how good He really is even when we still mess up. How foolish it is to be worrying about the those things that won’t matter in eternity. Instead, bring all those things you are concerned about to Him. Surrender is the most peaceful and faithful thing you can do, because… His love is reckless (lavishly disposed upon us) His forgiveness is complete (forgotten as if it never happened) His grace is scandalous (incomprehensible and undeserving) His mercy is unending(overwhelming and new every morning) Thanks for being here friends. Blessings, —Paula @CallToBattle

Hey friends, some of you may have heard by now but an adult Bald eagle was rescued at Big Bear lake after it was seen on the ground appearing it could not fly. There was speculation if it was Jackie since she has not been seen at the nest for a few days. Lately there has been two subadult eagles that have been threatening Jackie and Shadow’s territory. This past Friday July 17 there was footage of two subadult eagles attacking another adult bald eagle believed and now confirmed by Friends of Big Bear Valley it is our Jackie. She was eventually rescued and taken to a raptor center. Asking for prayers for Jackie as she recovers at the Ventura Raptor Center. I know many of you have been invested in their lives as have I, and are privileged to witness God’s beautiful creatures and symbol of our nation in their habitat. Thank you so much for your prayers. —Paula @CallToBattle

Oh mylanta! I asked the Lord to surprise me today! He sure did! You all just blessed me beyond measure today. Thank you for your sweet birthday wishes. I so appreciate you and your support throughout the years. I thought I would post this video in honor of another year of the gift of life because it reminded me it truly is better to give that to receive.
