| 6 |  Hello everyone, after many many hours and a lot of sleepless nights, I'm happy to finally share the 2026 Prelim Analysis :)
This is a very powerful resource and you can benefit in many ways.
1. Familiarise with the major themes
2. Understand the question trends
3. Practice using these questions
4. Differentiate between easier standard questions more difficult ones. "Lowkey Cooked" questions should be avoided and you need to know why, to make the best choice in the exams!
I understand some of us can feel lost and overwhelmed when reading these and finding that we are still not confident in answering many questions. This is why I would like to assure you again that you may reach out to join the crash course! I have designed it in a way where crash course = you can answer ALL the standard questions with ease = 90% of possible questions :) These standard questions have been marked out in the article too!

| 9 |  _Essay Skill Tip__: When we are stuck during our brainstorming for points, we can rely on examples. Although examples are not points (points = opinion/argument, examples = facts), they can help generate points. We can think of examples that intuitively appear in our minds and use those to derive the argument. For instance, an essay question looks at whether music has any value in our lives. We can begin thinking about examples of music in our lives and consider how they add value to our lives, or the different functions that music could have for us. Thinking about specific songs or interactions with music could really help crystallise some of the points. That being said, be sure to focus on deriving the argument instead of simply making our paragraph example-driven. Focus on how these examples are significant to the question, how do they ATQ? #Essay | 470 |
| 10 | _Compre Skill Tip__: Even when we don't know some words in the passage, we can still try to understand the ideas discussed. We can look for clues thats allow us to infer or make intelligent guesses about what the author wishes to communicate. The basic thing to infer is: does the author support/challenge this issue? One important clue would be looking at diction AKA word choice. The words that the author decides to use are all very deliberate. They are chosen precisely to convey a certain meaning. The connotation of these words could help us understand what the author is trying to say about the issue. Connotation refers to whether a word leans positive/negative/neutral. Usually, adjectives and verbs tend to either be positive/negative, giving us useful clues to derive whether the author supports/challenges #Compre | 419 |

| 19 |  FAQ: Is there a standard way to answer metaphor questions for paper 2?
Answer: Actually all the language questions found in Compre have a standard way we approach them and structure our answer. For metaphor, the first part of the answer needs to explain the metaphor. It will explain without any context, just simply explaining what the phrase itself means when used in any context.
The next part then goes to context. We would need to apply the metaphor back to the passage and explain what it means in the context of the passage. This contextualisation step is in fact a very key step for many language questions. To make it easier, we may also question what's the purpose of the metaphor when we are thinking of the answer, it will make a lot more sense in that way #FAQ

| 20 | FAQ: Is Vocab really so important? Can I not focus on Vocab?
Answer: Vocab is absolutely crucial for both papers. Let's break it down. In Essay, it's not about spamming big words. It's about using the right words and complex Vocab is much more nuanced and precise. For example, words like traction, marginalised, insidious, unprecedented - all these convey a lot in just one word. Apart from affecting language marks, it will directly contribute towards content too because it greatly enhances the depth of our arguments. Knowing more words always makes elaboration more intuitive because we have the ability to articulate what is otherwise a vague idea in our minds.
For Compre, Vocab first affects our ability to understand key ideas in the passage. More importantly, it determines how accurate our paraphrasing is (which matters a lot for SAQ and SQ). And better Vocab = faster paraphrasing = can finish the paper! #FAQ
