More sharing 😄 A lot of these students will also share how the crash course is so helpful to deliver so much in just a couple of lessons. And the common feeling is that they were once lost and stuck, but even after just 1 lesson, they could immediately make sense of GP and feel much more confident 🥳

🔥🔥 Many of you have been asking about the crash course, thank you for your interest (sign ups are still available since we are starting next Mon). But I thought I should actually address some common concerns. And what better way to do that than to hear it directly from students who have finished the class? :) Below I will share 3 highlights that I think very nicely capture the whole feeling and experience of being in the crash course and why it makes a WORLD of difference to your GP approach!!

FAQ: Is there a standard way to answer metaphor questions for paper 2? Answer: Actually all the language questions found in Compre have a standard way we approach them and structure our answer. For metaphor, the first part of the answer needs to explain the metaphor. It will explain without any context, just simply explaining what the phrase itself means when used in any context. The next part then goes to context. We would need to apply the metaphor back to the passage and explain what it means in the context of the passage. This contextualisation step is in fact a very key step for many language questions. To make it easier, we may also question what's the purpose of the metaphor when we are thinking of the answer, it will make a lot more sense in that way #FAQ Got questions? FAQ: Is Vocab really so important? Can I not focus on Vocab? Answer: Vocab is absolutely crucial for both papers. Let's break it down. In Essay, it's not about spamming big words. It's about using the right words and complex Vocab is much more nuanced and precise. For example, words like traction, marginalised, insidious, unprecedented - all these convey a lot in just one word. Apart from affecting language marks, it will directly contribute towards content too because it greatly enhances the depth of our arguments. Knowing more words always makes elaboration more intuitive because we have the ability to articulate what is otherwise a vague idea in our minds. For Compre, Vocab first affects our ability to understand key ideas in the passage. More importantly, it determines how accurate our paraphrasing is (which matters a lot for SAQ and SQ). And better Vocab = faster paraphrasing = can finish the paper! #FAQ Got questions? Pose it to the ZAscension GP Genie 🧞‍♂️: https://tinyurl.com/yczxp2dq

Today's example sharing is about Kim Soo-hyun and the susbeqeuent finding of him being targeted by AI tools. Regardless of how you feel about the issue, it's an interesting look at the issue of AI deepfakes, as well as the moral expectations have of celebrities (which then translates into public discourse and judgement by the court of public opinion) https://zascensiongp.substack.com/p/kim-soo-hyun-ai

Fun fact: Indv Values has 1 specific topic in this theme on Activism. Activism in particular has been coming out every single year consecutively for the past few years!! Analysing past trends is very helpful to help us prepare for content in a very systematic and effective manner You can reach me here: https://wa.me/6597223187

I want us to really make an informed choice for Essay content prep. Here is an easy breakdown of question trends. 1. Sci Tech and Media are popular among students but definitely not the most frequent in the A Levels 2. If we look at only the recent 4 years, Arts + Indv Values really stand out, far beyond the others 3. In particular, Indv Values is super rewarding, often having more than 1 question in a year! FAQ: But I don't know much about these? My school doesn't focus on them. Is it too late to start now? It's never too late! It's better to work on a correct theme that actually comes out rather than prepare for something that you may not be able to about. With our Content Crash Course happening stating 22 Sep, you're more than ready to easily conquer the Themes because all the painstakingly crafted arguments + researched case study examples will be delivered to you in a really engaging and concise manner, through model essays all written by me (Mr Zach) :) Sign up fot the CCC now, slots are limited!

Dear students, it's really heartening for me to see our community exceeding 1.7k now :) I'm thankful that my GP tips and resources are able to reach so many 💯 I see quite a few Reddit posts where J2 students are now panicking for GP, not knowing how to prepare in the final 2 months 😔 I do wish I can help everyone, because it's really possible even with 2 months! A lot of you have reached out in some way to let me know how helpful these have been. It will mean a lot to me if you can also share these with your friends. Help them ace GP too 😁 Your small gesture may actually go on to define their grade. I remmeber a friend sharing Econs notes with me previously, which I felt was a big reason that contributed to my A, and I was so thankful. Be that friend, spread the love 🥳 Share this now: https://t.me/GPTipsZA

_Essay Skill Tip__: Just like how we would memorise new words in our vocab study plan, we can also memorise particular phrases for essays. Some phrases used are especially effective in articulating the concept/idea. For eg, instead of "social media leads to change by affecting how people think", we can better explain it as "social media is a useful conduit for movements to gain traction and catalyse change by influencing public opinion and social discourse". You can see how vocab allows us to be much more precise, and the argument sounds more 'legit'. Others could be especially apt or pertinent for that specific topic. For eg, words like these are good for S&T essays: "algorithms, predictive analytics, scientific method, serendipity of research" etc. Memorising these phrases/words, coupled with understanding, could help us accurately and persuasively put our arguments across. Think of these words as tools that enable us to communicate our ideas with the intended effect #Essay

_Essay Skill Tip__: The first sentence of the Essay intro is really valuable because it will affect the first impression our reader has. It should be an engaging hook that really captures attention. What it shouldn't be: a generic idea about this theme that can be copy-pasted for various different questions, and actually doesn't say much about this specific question. Essentially, it needs to be insightful. By insightful I mean that it needs to value-add to the question, rather than sound like a random fact. A simple litmus test is: does this sentence I use easily fit into any other question? If yes, then it's probably not precise enough to fully engage with the current question. Additionally, whatever hook you choose to use, ensure that it links back to issues posed in the essay question. In other words, try to highlight the significance of the hook (why did we choose to bring it up, how does it engage with the question) #Essay

A new giveaway item - Example case study + Mini lesson (5-6 mins recording). Today's example will look at the very first AI-generated art that has won first prize in an art competition. This will uncover bigger issues surrounding AI-generated works. In all these mini lessons, my explanation will help you understand the context of this example and how we can distil concrete arguments from it to apply to GP. Students often struggle to apply their knowledge to actual questions, hearing how I do it can really help acquire this skill.
