Be proud that you are the first one in your family to break the chains of Abrahamism and return to your native ways. For you and your foreseeable heirs.

Happy 78th birthday, Stephen McNallen. A lifetime of dedication to restoring the Folk to our ancestral ways doesn't go unnoticed.
We appreciate the work you've put in and the inspiration you’ve given us.
Hæl Folkfather Stephen McNallen

Things would feel more important and sincere if they were devoted to the divine like ancient times.

Sveinn, the king’s kinsman [brother-in-law], remained behind at that assembly, and he offered to make sacrifice for the Swedes if they would grant him the kingdom; all agreed to Sveinn’s offer, and he was accepted as king over all the Swedish realm. Then a horse was led forth to the assembly, hewn in pieces, and divided up for eating, and the sacrificial tree was reddened with its blood. Thereafter all the Swedes cast off the Christian faith, and sacrifices were instituted, and they drove King Ingi away; he departed into western Gautland.
For three years Sveinn the Sacrificer was king over the Swedes.
Hervarar saga ok Heiðreks
In short, animal sacrifice is one of the only ways to deconvert, or to actually convert, to Heathenry. It is sacred, ancient, and is not just rank symbolism of primeval creation or whatever from goofy modern comparative mythologists. Common people did them, but spiritual leaders where required to do so at least three times a year. This is what the Gods established and the ancestors preserved. In other words, this is an essential part of Heathenry, full stop. This is why I have given much praise to groups and organizations who conduct such sacrifices, like the awesome folks at Raven Folk United! For the article we wrote on the constitutional protections of animal sacrifice, here's the link.
Again this is not to cause animosity, but, at the same time, if we are going to revive ancestral faith we have to make sure we are actually reviving ancestral faith. And how do we know that? Through our sources. There were philosophies rejecting animal sacrifice, and they are not pagan, for they willingly broke from tradition and went against the direct commands of the ancestors and Gods (i.e. axial-age heretics like neoplatonists buddhists etc). Mr. Capp is a good man who is probably heavily misguided on this issue, which is not uncommon during this time of early revival. 20 years ago, we hardly knew anything apart from goof ball new age and axial laden sources. But I am also not suggesting Mr. Capp isn't a genuine practitioner either. But the sources speak for themselves. And we have a duty to make sure we are reviving the sacred flame given to us by OUR Gods & OUR Ancestors. I hope this message is clear and was not meant to be antagonistic, but rather educational.

He made me a hǫrgr built of rocks, the stone has now become glass; he reddened [it] in new ox-blood; ever has Óttarr trusted in the Goddesses.

The sacrifice is of this nature: of every living thing that is male, they offer nine heads, with the blood of which it is customary to placate gods of this sort. The bodies they hang in the sacred grove that adjoins the temple.
Gesta Hammaburgensis ecclesiae pontificum
On the stall should also stand the blood-bowl, and therein the blood-rod was, like unto a sprinkler, and therewith should be sprinkled from the bowl that blood which is called "Hlaut", which was that kind of blood which flowed when those beasts were smitten who were sacrificed to the Gods. But round about the stall were the Gods arrayed in the Holy Place. To that temple must all men pay toll, and be bound to follow the temple-priest in all farings even as now are the thingmen of chiefs. But the chief must uphold the temple at his own charges, so that it should not go to waste, and hold therein feasts of sacrifice.
Eyrbyggja saga
Moreover, he made the Normans and Danes obedient to him in arms, and, recalling them from their former error, he taught them to bear the yoke of Christ with their king Cnut. But because I have heard wonderful things about their ancient sacrifices, I do not wish to pass these things over unexamined. There is one place in these parts, the capital of that kingdom, called Lederun, in a village called Selon, where after 9 years in the month of January, after this time when we celebrate the Theophany of the Lord, they all gathered, and there they sacrificed to their gods 99 men and as many horses, with dogs and roosters offered as hawks, 139.1193C|, for certain, as I have foretold, thinking that these would serve them towards the underworld and would atone for the crimes committed by them. How well did our king do who forbade them from so execrated a rite!

One autumn there was a great dísablót at King Alf’s, and Alfhild went to it… but in the night, as she was redding the hörg [altar] with blood, Starkad Aludreng took her away
Hervarar saga ok Heiðreks
In fact, Hervarar saga ok Heiðreks has many instances of animal sacrifice within it, just do a word search and they'll pop up.
Oseberg ship burial, one of many burials of high status individuals, has nine sacrificed cats inside dedicated to a priestess. That is not to mention all of the saga references and burial sites we have excavated. There would be pits outside of temples filled with the bones of animal sacrifices. Tacitus describes as much from a prechristian source:
Hercules and Mars they appease with beasts usually allowed for sacrifice.
Germania
These are just a handful of a great many sources, which indicate animal sacrifice, was indeed well attested in Heathenry. We have written at length about how these rituals are protected and should be revived. When our forefathers went through a transition period between christianity and Heathenry, when they would returned to the old gods, they gave animal sacrifice!
Chapter 28 of Heimskringla, titled 'Earl Hakon renounces the Christian faith, and plunders in Gotland' states:
When a wind came with which he thought he could get clear out to sea, he put all the learned men on shore again, and set off to the ocean; but as the wind came round to south-west, and at last to west, he sailed eastward, out through the sound, ravaging the land on both sides. He then sailed eastward along Scania, plundering the country wherever he came. When he got east to the skerries of East Gotland, he ran in and landed, and made a great blood-sacrifice. There came two ravens flying which croaked loudly; and now, thought the earl, the blood-offering has been accepted by Odin, and he thought good luck would be with him any day he liked to go to battle.

Recently the Fyrgen stated that animal sacrifice is attested, but not commanded by the Gods & therefore "it doesn't make you 'less heathen'." He states he's never done so in his 20-year journey & will never do so. There's a ton of sources & archeology which show blood sacrifice was a necessity. Here's a quote:
Odin established the same law in his land that had been in force in Asaland. ... Towards winter there should be blood-sacrifice for a good year & in the middle of winter for a good crop; & the third sacrifice should be in summer, for victory in battle. Over all Sweden the people paid Odin a tax so much on each head; but he had to defend the country from enemy or disturbance, & pay the expense of the sacrifice feasts towards winter for a good year.
Heimskringla, Chapter 8
Bui in Kjalnesinga Saga was outlawed for not wanting to sacrifice or prostrate before the Gods.
I know the Fyrgen means well, & not every person did the slaughter, but not wanting to sacrifice was considered by the ancestors as bad.

Blót (that is, to worship with blood sacrifice) is the highest form of offering heathens can make to our joyous Gods, and is the fundamental practice found in all heathen traditions and thews throughout the Germanic world. — Wudufugol Bundbook
