Paganism 101 for Germanic Pagans honoring the Landvaettir.
What Germanic pagans did on a daily basis and yet what most neglect is honoring the Landvaettir and it can be very simple. Being mindful of the natural land around your home and fostering an environment that is friendly to all living things within this area. The modern American lawn is the bane of the Landvaettir it is the cultivation of death. Clean up garbage and anything that is harmful to the land. Create a Vé sacred place for offerings by placing a flat stone in an area that speaks to you. You can mark it if you wish. Even just sitting outside and listening is a way to commune with them. A lot of this sounds like environmentalism mixed with spirituality? That’s because it is! Our ancestors were Animists and saw the value of the spirit in all things natural and strived to live in cohesion with it unlike modern times. If you’re taking from the land give back to it. Avoid loud noises or leaving tools near your sacred space. I’m certain the majority of American land is cursed because of our absolute disrespect to these forces that’s an easy parallel any Native American could agree on. In the Landnámabók, land spirits violently claimed the life of a settler who failed to honor traditional heathen customs and rituals.

I don’t know why people are scared of ghosts sure it can be startling but I don’t think in their ethereal form they can hurt you. I get as a Pagan the dead is a normal part of the ecosystem and not an anomaly but even as a Christian wouldn’t that experience make the world more supernatural and mysterious?

Every time I research dragons of the ancient world I see the lore of pagan societies and they definitely have stories of them being slain by heroes and whatnot but there seemed to be a mutual respect of their nature and what they were. Then I see Christianity reduce them to demonic entities that need to be cast out wherever they are found think St. Patrick banishing Caoránach to Lough Derg. I also see a more serpent like quality to ancient Dragons versus the fantasy beasts we think of today. Pagans respected their power, putting them on ships to strike fear and leaders being named after them. That’s how it goes for fearsome creatures of nature Pagans understood they can cause chaos but respected their power. Christianity rejected this evil lawless nature. Most medieval paintings of dragons in a time when Christianity was dominant showcases the slaying of them. I wonder if this was a great culling period. In 450 BCE Herodotus, known as the father of history, traveled to a mountain pass near the city of Buto in Egypt where he was shown piles of backbones and ribs belonging to winged serpents. He described them possessing something close to bat wings not feathered. According to locals the Ibis birds guarded Egypt from these winged serpents which is why Ibis are held in high regard there. Anyone of today would make such a claim and people would say you found a pit of dinosaur bones which I think they did what we call today as dinosaurs they knew then as dragons.

Upcoming Druids were said to have trained for 20 years to become one. They were required to remember all lore, poetry, astronomy, rituals, natural philosophy & law and be able to recite it orally. The ancient Celts considered it improper to commit their sacred lore to writing, unfortunately for us this leaves much of their ways a mystery to us relying on accounts from Greco-Roman authors. Versed in the secrets of the Gods they were not just priests but doctors, judges, historians & political advisors. Due to their immense spiritual power and social importance they did not fight in wars but the Greco-Romans feared them and were set on undermining them as quickly as possible.

“They profess to know the size of the world and the lands, the motion of the stars and the heavens, and the mind of the gods."
Writing in his treatise De situ orbis -AD 43, geographer Pomponius Mela highlighted the intellectual status of the druids.

Soyentists say that archaic giant lizards used to roam Earth. You will agree, but when we have HUNDREDS of accounts of ancients talking about giant lizards in the form of Dragons you say nah it’s just a children’s bedtime story. You are calling Alexander The Great a liar? All those ancient stories were just for funsies?

The iron dagger found in the tomb of the Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun dates to around 1350 B.C., about 200 years before the Iron Age. The dagger is made from meteoric iron claims scientists. The Egyptians viewed these otherworldly meteorites as gifts from the Gods.
