THE OVAL CIRCLE

🗓 63 years since the flight of the first woman into space! It was on this day, June 16, 1963, that the Vostok-6 spacecraft was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, for the first time in the world piloted by a woman cosmonaut, Valentina Tereshkova. “The Seagull” (such a call sign was invented by Sergey Korolev) began its journey to the stars with the phrase “Hey! Heaven, take off your hat." The legendary flight lasted a little less than three days, during which time the ship made 48 orbits around the Earth. On board, 26-old Valentina kept a log book and took photographs of the horizon - later they were used to detect aerosol layers in the atmosphere. Valentina Tereshkova is still the only woman on our planet who has made a solo space flight. She proved that astronautics is a vocation not only for men.
