25. Iran's Red Crescent Society signed a memorandum of understanding with Russia to acquire 20 rescue helicopters for search and rescue, medical evacuation, firefighting, and disaster response. | 4 |  📕 | The responsibility of preserving the message of Muharram does not rest upon the Shia community alone. It also belongs to the Ahl al-Sunnah. Karbala is not the heritage of one school of thought. Imam Husayn (A) is the grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), and his sacrifice belongs to the entire Ummah. Returning to the primary sources of Islam reveals numerous narrations about the virtues of Imam Husayn (A), the tragedy of Karbala, and the grief expressed over him. The responsibility today is to expose Yazid for what he represented and to revive this prophetic legacy through authentic Islamic teachings.
History demonstrates that mourning for Imam Husayn (A) was never exclusive to the Shia. The Sunnah of many of the Sahabah and generations of Muslim scholars reflected love and reverence for the Ahl al-Bayt (A). The renowned Sunni scholar Imam al-Zuhri is among those remembered in this regard. Historical reports mention that he invited Imam Zayn al-Abidin (A) to his daughter's wedding, which was accepted after arrangements were made that respected the mourning of Ahl al-Bayt. Across the centuries, scholars from both Sufi and non-Sufi Sunni traditions organized gatherings during the first ten days of Muharram, recited the events of Karbala, composed elegies, and kept the memory of Imam Husayn (A) alive. This tradition has deep historical roots throughout the Muslim world.
The overwhelming majority of Sunni schools, apart from Takfiri and Nasibi tendencies, have historically expressed love for Imam Husayn (A) and remembered his martyrdom. The question is what has changed today. Who discouraged this remembrance? Who convinced Muslims that mourning for the grandson of the Prophet (PBUH) was something to avoid? Why have certain preachers appeared, selectively using the statements of fringe and deviant individuals to portray the entire Shia tradition negatively, while ignoring centuries of scholarship, reverence, and shared devotion to Karbala?
Today the fronts have become clearer than ever. Every Muslim should ask what their own school of thought truly teaches through the Qur'an, the authentic Sunnah, and the legacy of their great scholars, rather than blindly following the narratives of Takfiris and Nawasib who sought to distance the Ummah from Karbala. There is no obligation to commemorate Muharram exactly as the Shia do. Every tradition has its own expressions of devotion. What matters is not imitation but sincerity. Remember Imam Husayn (A), expose Yazid and his legacy, teach your families about Karbala, revive the authentic traditions preserved within your own heritage, and do the best that your conscience, scholarship, and love for the Ahl al-Bayt (A) call you to do.

Many view it merely as a collection of rituals, while others dismiss its practices as innovations or even shirk. Yet these rituals have done far more than preserve religious ceremonies. They have sustained the movement of Karbala across centuries and carried its message from the smallest villages to every corner of the world. Today, there is scarcely any place where the mourning of Muharram is not organized in a systematic way.
Islam is a civilization-building religion. It embraces culture when it is nurtured under the guidance of the Qur'an, the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), and his infallible Imams (A). Muharram has shaped minds and awakened emotions to such an extent that it removes fear in the face of oppression. This is not merely symbolic. One only has to look at Lebanon. Tens of thousands of families have endured destruction and loss. If those who resisted were simply fighting as proxies for someone else, where did such unwavering courage come from? Why did mothers remain steadfast like walls against occupation instead of surrendering? This is the spirit of Muharram.
The Islamic Revolution built upon centuries of scholarly and cultural efforts to preserve and develop the legacy of Karbala. Imam Khamenei further expanded this cultural movement of Muharram and Safar on a global scale. From literature and poetry to visual arts, institutions, educational initiatives, and the systematic organization of mourning ceremonies, this legacy has continued to evolve while remaining deeply rooted in the teachings of Imam Husayn (A). Muharram is not simply a remembrance of history. It is a living school that continues to shape individuals, societies, and movements across the world.
Today, when he is no longer among us, it feels as though we are organizing these rituals without their caretaker. The sense of loss is immense, and every majlis, procession, and lamentation carries the pain of his absence. Yet the pain is not greater than our hope. The path of Muharram does not end with the departure of one generation, no matter how great its sacrifices. It continues until the promise of Allah is fulfilled. We await the reappearance of Imam al-Mahdi (AJ), under whose leadership the mission of Karbala will reach its ultimate victory. Until that day, the responsibility of preserving and carrying forward this legacy rests upon every believer.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Peace be upon you, O Avenger of Allah and son of His Avenger.
With the arrival of the month of Muharram, the month in which blood triumphed over the sword, and the days of mourning for the Master and Leader of the world’s free people, Imam al-Husayn (A), and his loyal companions, and on the eve of the farewell, funeral procession, and burial of the Mujahid Imam, the martyred Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei (r), along with the martyrs from the family of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, we present to the noble people of Iran and the admirers of that unique figure, both within the country and abroad, the thematic direction and the promotional approach for this event.
Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution (H), stated in his first message regarding our martyred leader:
“I was granted the honor of viewing his body after his martyrdom. What I saw was a mountain of steadfastness. I was also told that the fist of his uninjured hand remained tightly clenched…”
This “clenched fist,” which serves as the official symbol of the farewell ceremony for that extraordinary figure, is not merely an emblem. It represents the compassionate hand of the father of the Ummah, a hand that stood repeatedly against global arrogance, never trembled, and was never opened except for the sake of Allah.
It is from that clenched fist and from the surging blood of such a powerful yet oppressed man that the hearts of the world’s free people have been stirred, and the Iranian nation has experienced a new awakening. This awakening must continue by raising ever higher the banner of the front of truth throughout the world, avenging the pure blood of our martyred Mujahid Imam, and building a stronger future for the Islamic Republic of Iran. His Eminence (r) attained martyrdom in a bloody war, a form of martyrdom that, among the Shi’a Imami scholars (r), has not befallen a figure of his stature and rank.
As an extension of the outpouring of this sacred blood that has shaken the earth and the heavens, the central slogan of this ceremony will be:
“We Must Rise.”
This slogan is a continuation of the call to “Rise for the sake of Allah,” which our beloved Leader (H) described at the beginning of his address on the fourteenth of Khordad this year as the foundation of the school of the Great Imam Khomeini and the beloved Khamenei. It is the same uprising that began in mid-Khordad 1963, reached victory in February 1979, continued throughout the era of the Resistance, and has now entered a new stage through the martyrdom of that righteous servant of Allah.
“We Must Rise” means that this blood flows with such force that it no longer permits any devoted follower to remain still.
“We Must Rise” means that the covenant the awakened nation has made through his blood will continue until the very last breath.
For this ceremony, titled “Farewell to Iran’s Martyred Leader,” a comprehensive visual identity package has been prepared to serve as the basis for all media productions, promotional materials, public and urban displays, cultural products, and related programs.
Yet this mourning is not confined to the people of Iran alone. From the countries of the Resistance Front to the farthest corners of the world, free and freedom loving people have been grieved by this great martyrdom. Inspired by the same school, the Islamic Ummah proclaims the divine call:
“Rise for the sake of Allah.”
This slogan is the essence of the final guidance and wise messages of our martyred Imam. “Rise for the sake of Allah” is not merely his advice, but a renewal of allegiance to his school. It is a declaration to the world that his greatness, his faith, and his unparalleled courage will continue with even greater strength and resolve. | 1 608 |
