Yes, water is the most important thing to have in order to survive. I definitely don't want to downplay the importance of water. However, when I see warnings about stocking up on supplies, a lot of people tend to rush out to buy emergency food, such as MREs and other food kits.  They pay a lot of money for these and it's not entirely necessary. I have rice that's 16years old. I opened some of it and cooked it and ate it. It was fine. If it's stored correctly, it will last a long time. Rice, beans and lentils are food staples. Combined, they make a complete protein. Chicken or beef or tuna can be supplemented in. Eggs can be too. I have noodles too. In fact, I have all kinds of noodles, from ramen to spaghetti noodles to gluten free noodles I purchased at the grocery store. My diet is a lot more restricted now than it used to be, but other family members can still eat this  I will eat it in a pinch. All of this food requires cooking and it also requires water. So it is implied that water is something that must be on hand. It should go without saying that water comes first above all else. I just wanted to post this about food staples because people don't need to order loads of expensive  dehydrated food from online stores ready to take your money.  These types of online retailers put a lot of sodium into their food and I question just how well it will nourish a body under stress during a catastrophe.  By the way, I have some of these food buckets. I have already made this move, but my food supply is augmented and supplemented with things I have purchased at my local grocery store. I have done this piecemeal over 18 years. It wasn't all at once. I buy canned chicken and tuna. I buy rice, lentils and beans. I buy spices. I have a lot of Himalayan Salt, which can be used as an electrolyte and to salt food. I store dehydrated eggs, goat milk (comes in a can) and butter. Basically, think of everything you use on a daily or weekly basis and store those away in a form that will last on the shelf or in a food bucket for awhile.
