| 17 | I've been watching a lot of different videos taken from everywhere with people fighting. In many cases there is one person (sometimes two) who is targeted by a group of others. Many of them don't end well for the victims, who end up on the ground getting kicked. One thing I don't understand is when I see victims go to the found and cover their heads and don't get back up. I learned in Tae Kwon Do to fight from a ground position, even when attackers are standing. I've also since learned that running away is sometimes the best defense. No matter what, I will fight and keep fighting when confronted with a threat. I highly recommend to everyone to get some proper training in self defense and martial arts. Traditional martial arts have validity and are a good place to start learning. There's nothing wrong with learning a well established system of fighting, especially from someone who has mastered it. There's also nothing wrong with mixed martial arts either, or boxing. Just get in something and begin learning your strengths and weaknesses.
I make this suggestion on top of having training with firearms and other weapons. There's a place for weapons. There's a way to mix them into hand skills. However, not every threat is deadly, and that's where nonlethal methods come in. The best defense though, is "to no be there," so using your situational awareness to identify signals ahead of time so you can make a quick exit trumps everything, every single time. | 104 |
