Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee are dismissing an upcoming hearing on the sharp rise in Chinese illegal immigration as "invasion rhetoric" and "fearmongering" -- sparking a sharp response from their Republican counterparts. The Republican majority is holding a hearing on Thursday about the spike in Chinese migration, called "Security Risk: The unprecedented surge in Chinese illegal immigration." The hearing is being held by the subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations and Accountability. It comes as officials at the southern border have encountered more than 1,200 Chinese illegal immigrants in the first eight days of May, averaging more than 150 a day. READ

China’s maritime forces have begun the process of building additional “large man-made islands” in the South China Sea, according to Philippine officials who announced new patrols to thwart the effort. “No one will guard these locations except us,” Philippine National Security Council spokesman Jonathan Malaya told local media on Monday. “It is our responsibility under international law to guard them and ensure that the environment there would not be damaged and that there won’t be reclamation activities.” That allegation adds to the acrimony around China’s claim to sovereignty over most of the South China Sea, including much of the Philippines‘s exclusive economic zone. The latest allegation centers on the Sabina Shoal, also known as Escoda Shoal — an area “just 75 nautical miles from the coast of Palawan” where Philippine Coast Guard officials say they have found deposits of crushed coral, consistent with China’s previous island-building operations. In what has apparently become the Achilles Heel for Scottish leaders, new First Minister John Swinney has already been stumped by the seemingly simple question “What is a woman?”, less than one week on the job. Swinney, the second in a row Scottish National Party (SNP) politician to be installed without an election following the trans-agenda-influenced downfalls of his predecessors Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf, is already struggling to convey a cogent understanding of sex and gender to the public. 😑sCiEnTiStS are back at it again: The oldest human viruses, including herpes, have been uncovered in 50,000-year-old Neanderthal bones - and experts could soon recreate them. Researchers at Brazil's Federal University of São Paulo identified remnants of the herpesviruses, which causes cold sores, the sexually transmitted papillomavirus and adenovirus, also known as the common cold, in two male Neanderthals' DNA found in a Russian cave. Previous theories suggested that Neanderthals may have gone extinct because of viruses and the latest study may be the first to provide evidence for this idea. Now, the team hopes to synthesize the viruses and infect human cells in a lab to see how they compare to their modern-day counterparts. READ
