This is Makaan Nasiri.
A first-grader at Shajareh Tayyebeh School in Minab, southern Iran. On March 9, 2026, his school was hit by missiles during American and Israeli strikes on Iran. When the dust settled, 156 people were dead. 120 of them were children. Makaan's entire class — gone in seconds.
But Makaan's story has one more tragedy.
His body was never found.
His mother, Asiyeh, had called the school just minutes before the second missile hit. She asked the van driver to bring her son home early. A mother's instinct. It came too late.
His father, Sirus, spent 38 days digging through rubble with his bare hands. *"Even if it's just a fingernail,"* he said, *"I want to find him."*

Makaan dreamed of becoming a football player. He went to practice every Saturday. He loved the color blue. He laughed easily. He was not a number. He was not a headline. He was a child.

| 19 |  Today in southern Lebanon, a story unfolded that feels almost unbearable in its sorrow.
A young woman, Bayan Atwi, still reeling from the recent martyrdom of her husband, was left alone with grief that had not yet had time to settle. In her anguish, she turned to Facebook and shared a symbolic image, writing a quiet prayer to Allah sw asking, in the language of despair, to be reunited with the husband she had just lost.
An hour later, she was gone.
She was killed in a terrorist Israeli airstrike that struck the coastal town of Qennarit in the Sidon district, sourh Lebanon
Her name was Bayan.
And in a cruel twist of meaning, it felt as if her name itself carried two destinies at once; one of separation, and one of final revelation.
