Rokita’s office first demanded removal of the requirement in April, but IHSAA disagreed and proposed considering changes in May 2027, prompting the state to sue after additional correspondence produced no change. The Pacific Legal Foundation and Equal Protection Project had also demanded removal of the race and sex requirements. IHSAA maintains that its bylaws comply with state and federal civil-rights laws and that broad representation and diverse perspectives further its mission of serving Indiana student-athletes and schools.

Adults have no business inserting themselves into private political organizing chats with children and encouraging minors to participate in partisan activism during the school day. Regardless of whether Chollet committed a crime, an adult joining a chat of high-school students to encourage their political protest was idiotic and crossed an appropriate adult-child boundary; adults should be protecting children from political radicalization, not participating in or facilitating it.
