📌 Damascus and Aleppo airports are now open for night flights after Israel quietly lifted its block on activating navigation equipment, regional officials said.
📌 Syria's civil aviation authority said on Thursday it had installed systems allowing aircraft to land at night and in poor visibility.
📌 Activating them required calibration flights within 50 km of Damascus airport, and Israel, whose forces are 25–40 km from the capital, threatened to shoot the aircraft down, a regional official said.
📌 The equipment sat idle for over six months until the flights were cut to a 25 km radius; Israel did not respond when notified.
📌 Israel earlier opposed a Turkish-made radar at Damascus airport, saying it could limit its freedom of action in Syrian airspace.
