The Central Bank of Syria issued its first letter of credit in 14 years, the bank payment guarantee that underpins most trade deals, to finance the first oil products supply deal between the Syrian Petroleum Company and Saudi Aramco, signed on Sunday. The credit was arranged in coordination with a major US bank.
Central bank officials met the Federal Reserve Bank of New York last week to discuss how Syria can use its account there to execute transactions.
