| 2 | Dollar Is Caught Between Growth and Credibility
Higher real yields are giving the dollar a temporary lift as firm US data flattens the curve, though the currency is caught between resilient nominal growth and a lingering risk premium.
Real yields moved higher across the curve after this morning’s data, led by the front end, with 2-year reals up roughly 4 bps. PCE was uncomfortable at the margin, while the broader activity picture remains firm enough to keep the growth side of the US exceptionalism argument alive.
A rise in real yields accompanied by curve flattening and stronger data carries a very different signal from one driven by concerns over policy credibility and inflation risk. The former reinforces the carry and growth appeal of the dollar. The latter raises questions around the policy mix and weighs on the currency even as nominal yields climb. The dollar is stuck in that game of yoyo, with political concerns limiting the scope for sustained strength while robust nominal growth keeps a meaningful floor underneath it.
Looking beyond the noise coming out of Treasury, real yields approaching 3% are exceptionally attractive for liability-driven participants, where the appeal of locking in long-duration real income is straightforward. For traders and bond vigilantes, the same yield can carry a very different message around term premium and inflation. That split helps explain why the long end can find demand even as the broader rates market questions where equilibrium really is. | 135 |

| 10 | Things to know 26-08-2026
U.S. – Iran🇺🇸🇮🇷
Iran said it had restarted talks with neighbour Oman to manage the Strait of Hormuz as it faces heightened economic pressure from US President Donald Trump in the wider conflict. Iran and Oman have been in on-and-off talks for weeks about controlling traffic through the strategic waterway, which handled one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments before the war began in February. On the other hand, Rubio tells allies that US shifting from strikes to sanctions on Iran and that they are unlikely to launch new Iran strikes for time being.
Federal reserve 🪙
Fed's Barkin said that if debt rises at some point, investors will stop buying, and there will eventually be a reckoning on US debt and that comes after rising national debt (which crossed $40 trillion) and a $2.1 trillion fiscal budget deficit.
Australia🇦🇺
Annual inflation rate in Australia slowed to 3.5% in July 2026 from 3.8% in June but remained above both expectations of 3.3% and the central bank's 2–3% target range. It was the softest increase since November 2025, as goods inflation moderated to an eleven-month low of 3.2%, while services inflation also eased to 3.7% from 4.0%.
Crude Oil🛢️
Crude oil fell toward $80 per barrel, following reports that Iran and Oman discussed the establishment of a “temporary joint maritime corridor” in the Strait of Hormuz. Technical talks between the two sides are set to continue as they work toward a permanent maritime corridor covering the future administration of the strait, information-sharing mechanisms, traffic management, and the provision of maritime and security services. On the other hand, US crude oil inventories rose by 4.2 million barrels in the week ending August 21st, well above market expectations for a 1.9-million-barrel increase and reversing a 328,000-barrel decline in the previous week.
Gold⭐️
Gold traded around $4,650, as investors awaited the latest US PCE price index report, the Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of inflation. Attention is also turning to Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s speech at the annual Jackson Hole symposium on Friday, although he is not expected to provide clear guidance on the central bank’s policy decision in September. Investors continued to assess the US Treasury’s decision to double liquidity-support buyback operations for longer-dated notes and bonds. | 183 |

| 14 | Brent Crude Falls as Bessent Focuses on Iran Sanctions
Brent crude touched the day’s lows after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent kept remarks at his press conference mostly focused on Iran, saying the US would end dollar access to those laundering Iranian money and block every potential revenue source for the IRGC. The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index ticked up slightly to a session high.
He mostly steered clear of talking about the department’s plan, announced last week, to boost its buybacks of long-end bonds, saying the next operation is on Sept. 9 and “we’ll see” what happens then. CNBC reported earlier Monday that the Treasury could draw down some of its cash pile to fund those repurchases.

The key question: can buybacks help lower long-term yields without creating new risks for the Treasury market?

| 20 | *Option Traders Turn Bullish on Euro Ahead of Bessent Measures*
Currency option traders are aligned with the idea that a disappointment from US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will boost the euro’s prospects.
One-week and one-month risk reversals show that traders are the most bullish they have been on EUR/USD since February. While the currency has already advanced more than 2% this quarter, it has the potential to extend those tactical gains.
Bessent may outline savings to rein in the US’s deficit, but any sense that they amount to little more than tinkering at the margins will likely send the dollar — which has won itself some respite ahead of the announcement — lower. | 211 |
