| 17 | Yields Trim Declines as Warsh Dismisses Inflation Optimism
Yields are ticking slightly higher, paring declines, after Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh said that “mission accomplished” is not his view after Tuesday’s soft CPI report. Two-year breakevens are down 15 basis points on the day and swaps have essentially abandoned bets for a potential July hike, but Warsh is showing some vigilance in his commitment to return to the Fed’s 2% target. It should be said though, inflation has not been at or below the Fed’s target for five years now, so any notion that the Fed had accomplished anything would be entirely misplaced, and that seems to be what Warsh is getting at with his comments.
