Oromia Development Association (ODA/WMO), in partnership with Geneva Global UNICEF Ethiopia , OCHA/EHF, ECW, and others has been implementing impactful Education in Emergencies (EiE) and child protection interventions across Oromiyaa Region, 8 zones over 23 woredas, over the past five years (2020–2025) and up to dates.
Through projects supported by ECW, CDA, IOD, STEP, OCHA/GAPI, KFW/EiE, FCDO, and Finland, ODA has continued creating access to safe, inclusive, and quality learning opportunities for crisis-affected children and communities.
Overall Achievement (2020–2025):
Boys reached: 43,137
Girls reached: 58,089
Total beneficiaries reached: 118,686
The support included:
Accelerated and formal education programs
School Healing Groups (SHG) and psychosocial support
Parenting sessions and community dialogues
Life skills training for children and youth
Family and community engagement initiatives
Currently, under the project titled “Increasing Access to Protective and Inclusive Learning Opportunities for Crisis-Affected Children,” ODA, Geneva Global Ethiopia, and UNICEF-Finland are supporting children in three districts of Guji Zone: Sabba Boru, Girja, and Aga Wayyu.
The project is providing Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) education for 1,386 out-of-school children in 33 schools who had previously dropped out of education due to different challenges. Learning materials such as exercise books and pens have also been distributed to support continuous teaching and learning.
In addition, the project has created employment opportunities for at least 52 individuals in the area.
Child Protection activities are also underway to identify and support vulnerable children exposed to various socio-economic risks.
Capacity-building trainings are continuously being provided for facilitators, social workers, project coordinators, and other relevant stakeholders to strengthen effective implementation.
Over the coming two years, the project will further contribute to:
Improving school facilities
Supporting school rehabilitation activities
Raising awareness on gender-based violence prevention
Strengthening safe, inclusive, and child-friendly learning environments

At ODA, we believe every child deserves a chance. Today, we gathered 39 dedicated educators from Dire and Dubuluk woredas for a critical training session in Yabelo. Supported by UNICEF and KfW, this training ensures our ALP facilitators are equipped to:
Identify and support students with disabilities.
Deliver vital life skills in emergency contexts.
Special thanks to Mr. Sora for the official opening and to the trainers from Bule Hora Teachers College for sharing their expertise. Together, we are building a more inclusive future for our children.
