🔆 India’s High-Speed Rail Future: Building a Standardised Path for Expansion 📍 Why in Focus? PIB released a backgrounder highlighting how the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project is creating a standardised template for future bullet train corridors, promoting indigenous manufacturing and expanding India’s high-speed rail network. 📍 Key Highlights: ✅ MAHSR is India’s first bullet train corridor (508 km), using Japanese Shinkansen technology, with a design speed of 350 kmph and operational speed of 320 kmph. Travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will reduce to about 1 hour 58 minutes. ✅ A standardised engineering template (common designs for piers, viaducts, tracks, stations, signalling and electrification) is being developed to reduce costs, improve quality and accelerate future high-speed rail construction. ✅ Under Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, ICF and BEML are developing indigenous 280 kmph trainsets, while Indian industries are localising components, slab-track systems and specialised equipment. ✅ The corridor features J-Slab ballastless tracks, 2×25 kV traction system, 12 stations, 3 rolling stock depots, and over 20,000 OHE masts.
