| 8 |  London's majesty is often hid just out of view. This bronze statue of Francis Bacon by Frederick William Pomeroy (1912) resides in front of the law library in the garden that Bacon designed at Gray's Inn, London.
This lovely spot sits behind/beside the Cittie of York pub which was once over the road of its current site and said to be a drinking spot for Francis Bacon. This is what modern architects should be aspiring to. | 246 |

| 19 |  The Anchor & Hope (15 High Hill Ferry, London E5 9HE) is the mid-19th century pub facing the River Lea and looking across to Walthamstow Marshes.
It originally served a local community of watermen, bargemen, chandlers, and local industrial workers, particularly those in the nearby dyeing trade.
Nowadays, it operates as a Fuller's pub and remains a beloved landmark tucked away by the river towpath.
Public houses like this aren't only a key insight into our past, but living museums that we should enjoy and preserve long into the future. We've lost so many pubs just like this, which is a crime in many ways.
