This is Henry Moseley, who was born in Dorset, 1887. He was an English physicist, whose contribution to the science of physics was the justification from physical laws of the previous empirical and chemical concept of the atomic number.
After having invented the periodic table, he was shot and killed during the Battle of Gallipoli (WW1) on 10 August 1915, at the age of 27. Experts have speculated that Moseley could otherwise have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1916.
Not only can we only imagine what he would have gone on to achieve being only 27, but how many others who lost their lives, or their minds as a result of the world wars.

Centuries of shoes belonging to multiple generations have worn this step into what it is today.
This is what I'm always looking for. Little details that make the connection between us and the human beings who lived within our old homes all the more relatable.
Unless my eyes mistake me, it looks to me as if the right foot leads in, and the left foot leads out. A telling sign of how we mentally and physically prepared to take each corner.
Nowadays, there are people who'd look at this, have no connection with its cultural or historical significance, and want to replace it.
