The PSLE season is upon us. Revision, practice papers, late nights, nerves and lots of hopes for what comes next. It’s natural for parents to want the best for their children and hope that all their hard work pays off. But in the midst of hoping for good results, it can be easy to forget that our children are more than the grades they bring home.
Like Mary and Joseph, parents are called to be stewards, not owners, of their children. To love them, guide them and trust God with the path He has for them. Whatever the results or school posting, may every child hear: “𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘦. 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶. 𝘐 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶.”

The grief of infertility can feel heavy and isolating. In a culture that often views the body as something to override or engineer, it is easy to default to solutions like IVF.
But we are invited to a different perspective, one that treats fertility as a gift to be understood and cared for. Methods like Natural Family Planning (NFP) and NaProTechnology work with a woman’s natural biology to diagnose and treat root causes, offering a path of restoration rather than substitution.

When Jesus looked at St. Matthew, He didn’t see him simply as others did — a tax collector, a sinner, someone with a past. 𝐇𝐞 𝐬𝐚𝐰 𝐡𝐢𝐦 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐚𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥. We can sometimes feel defined by our mistakes or by the way others see us. But God looks at us differently. He sees our whole story, our struggles, our wounds and our hearts, and He meets us not with condemnation, but with mercy.
This is what makes Jesus’ invitation to Matthew so powerful. He didn’t demand that Matthew prove himself worthy before following Him. He simply called him. “𝐈 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐲, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞” reminds us that following Jesus isn’t about looking like the perfect Christian or getting every rule right. It’s about allowing His mercy to transform our hearts, so that we can learn to love as He does. And perhaps that’s the invitation for us too: to receive God’s mercy for ourselves, and then extend that same mercy to others.

There are moments when we’ve been hurt so deeply that those words can feel completely justified. Sometimes, holding on to the anger can even feel like the only way to honour what happened.
But over time, resentment can keep us bound to the very wound we are trying to heal. We forgive not because what happened was okay, or because the other person has earned our forgiveness, but because we don’t want the hurt to continue having a hold over our hearts.
Forgiveness doesn’t mean forgetting the hurt or trusting the person again. It means choosing, little by little, to surrender our pain to God, release our anger, and leave justice in His hands. It rarely happens overnight — sometimes, it’s a decision we return to again and again. “Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” May Our Lady teach us to forgive as Jesus did — with mercy, freedom and love. 🙏

It’s easy to become so focused on building a successful life that we neglect the people we love, forget to rest, and leave God out of it. What if, in chasing the life we want, we lose sight of what truly matters?

It’s natural for parents to hope for good results and a place in their child’s dream school. But whatever the outcome, may they remember that a child’s worth is so much more than a score or school posting.
You may not always see where God is leading your children, but you can trust that He does. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight.” (Proverbs 3:5) May Our Lady and St Joseph intercede for all children and families in this season, helping parents surrender their worries, support their children wholeheartedly, and trust in God’s plan for their lives. 🙏

The cross of infertility is a difficult one to bear – and it is even more so when there seems to be no scientific explanation to one’s struggle to conceive.
It brings to life the reality that each child is a gift from God. Each child is begotten, and must not be treated like a manmade product. IVF, though thought of as a helpful means for individuals struggling with infertility to conceive, violates the right for each child to be begotten as a gift by the act of love by their parents.

We live in a world where we’re so used to measuring success by numbers and immediate impact. And it becomes so easy for us to start measuring the "success" of our parishes by event attendance, and how many programmes we run.
Yet, discipleship asks a deeper question: 𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕?
Because a missionary parish isn’t simply one that keeps people coming back. It’s one that helps people encounter Christ, grow in faith, and eventually go out to make Him known.
Maybe it’s time to look beyond how many came, and ask whether our parish is truly forming people to live and share the Gospel.

Does it feel like your world has shattered — what you thought you knew is gone, something precious has been taken from you, and now you’re left grieving the loss and the pain? Or maybe it feels like life has placed a heavy cross on your shoulders, one so crushing that you can’t see the end of the road or even a glimpse of light ahead.
It’s hard for others to truly understand the depth of what you’re going through. But there is hope because there 𝘪𝘴 someone who understands. Our Lady of Sorrows, whose heart was pierced seven times, knows what it means to suffer deeply.
When we unite our pain with hers, it may not take the cross away, but it reminds us we are not alone. Mary walks with us, feels with us, and gives us the courage to keep going on the path God has placed before us. If your journey feels isolating and unbearable, will you let Our Mother, Our Lady of Sorrows, carry it with you? 💙

We spend so much of our lives chasing the next thing — the next achievement, relationship, trip, purchase or milestone that we think will finally make us feel fulfilled. And sometimes, even when we get what we wanted, we’re left wondering, is this really it?
Maybe that restlessness is reminding us that we were made for more. More than success, more than being liked, more than having it all figured out. We’re here for a reason, and ultimately, we’re made for something beyond this world. So love deeply, forgive freely, give generously, and don’t be afraid to live for something bigger than yourself. We’re in this world, but we’re not made for this world.

Rev. Fr. Simon Pereira, C.Ss.R. of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer has returned to the Lord on 13 September 2026 at the age of 78, after 55 years of religious profession and 49 years of priesthood.
The Archdiocese extends condolences to the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer and his family in this time of loss and invites all to pray for him in your masses and prayers.

The Cross may look like a place of suffering and defeat, but through Jesus, it became a place of victory. He chose to give Himself completely out of love, showing us just how deeply we are loved. When we look at the Cross, we are reminded that even in our pain, Jesus is not far from us — He is there, meeting us in the very places where we feel most broken.
When life strips away the things we once relied on, the Cross teaches us to lean on Jesus and surrender more deeply to Him. We may not always understand what He is doing, but we can trust that our suffering is not the end of the story. In His hands, even our deepest struggles can become places where His grace, love and victory are revealed.

Today, we give thanks for the gift of water and pray for all those without access to clean and safe water. May we never take this precious gift for granted, but care for it wisely and protect our common home. May our stewardship of creation be an expression of gratitude to God and love for our neighbours, especially those most in need.
