The scariest thing is that you don't have to even search for crazy fatwas by Fawzan. Just listen to a few and you're bound to hear something crazy. In this case, it is baffling that this clip was specially edited and uploaded on his YouTube channel to showcase his jahl without anyone in the profess flagging it up for fact checking. (Of course, this is not surprising when you see that his shuruh of mutun in Hanbali Fiqh transcribed from durus are replete with errors and also get published without any sort of revision process or fact checking) https://x.com/guywithlibrary/status/1765143380072202470?t=baP0uvEPveD8yQjmTK9fDA&s=35

Repost from Faisal Hassan
The best thing about teaching something you enjoy is the lesson notes and preparation. Contrary to university assignments, there's no word limit on lesson notes. You just keep writing and writing and suddenly notice you've created your own dissertation. Before you know it, you're on 10,000 words, then 20,000, then 30,000 and you keep going. The task is to then condense that and make it accessible to learners (it's sort of like making your own Commentary). And that's what's happening with my Ramadan Program. There's a great deal of learning simply from the verses in which Allah tells us what He expects from us. And I believe the purpose & history of Tarawih and tying it to the month of the Quran is also something to look forward to. I'm excited for it, and it starts this Sunday. If you'd like to join us, there's a 15% discount active only until Friday. Join the lovely people here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/ramadan-program-tickets-850447741087?aff=oddtdtcreator

TARAWIH DEBATES: TOLERANCE IS THE ONLY A WAY FORWARD A threat to the credibility of the pro-"≥20 tantum" camp is their insistence that anything less is an invalid practice. Remember, we are talking about their claim that "<20 tantum" is outright invalid - and not that they merely disagree with it. Many go as far as to claim there is consensus on "≥20 tantum." They are well advised to tone themselves down. The aggravated claim is a tall order, considering that a) there are multiple scholars who are of the view of flexibility, and b) the evidence is in favour of flexibility is the objectively reasonable - both of which are hallmarks of a valid opinion. So how about when it is quite plausible that the position of flexibility is more aligned with the evidence? And no, I'm not in the business of forcing the view of flexibility on anyone. This is not one of those posts that makes a long list of arguments in favour of flexibility. The only contention here is that it is a valid position. The objective of this post is to recalibrate one's priorities in Ramadan and not waste time. I have seen dozens of lectures and read much material from the pro-"≥20 tantum" camp - none of them unfortunately have seriously reckoned with the arguments of the other side, or have represented them faithfully. Perhaps this is out of ignorance, incompetence, or deception. Whatever the case, it is not an enviable position to be in. Not only that, ludicrous Hanafi claims of consensus in favour of the "≥20 tantum" position only mean they are willing to interfere and re-engineer what the other Schools of Fiqh have to say on the subject. We have seen this happen repeatedly in argumentation and polemics. I will say to my Hanafi fraternity that anytime they start poking their noses in other schools' business ends up in a trainwreck. Nobody from the other schools invited you to chime in on what their scholarly view should be. And none of the official books of Ijma' ever make mention of your dear "≥20 tantum" view. But of course, if members of the pro-"≥20 tantum" camp want to retain ownership of this intolerant and harsh position in what is essentially a non-mandatory prayer, if they want to declare the imposition of their view to be a priority, and if they want to pretend this is an issue of their identity, that is their prerogative. At the same time, they would also have to assume responsibility for any social intolerance, online intimidation, and unjustified argumentation we are all familiar with. They cannot wash their hands from this - or slink away from how their social media urchins behave. To this end, they have more in common with the pro-"8 tantum" fringe - an adversary they have debated for over a century - they've miserably failed and made matters worse for the Ummah. The only thing they have achieved is to be judgemental and look down on their brethren in faith. I look at both with pity. The pro-"≥20 tantum" camp has debated its villainous adversary long enough to see itself become the villain. At this moment, even if members of this camp cannot see validity in the view of flexibility, the best they can do is to do what they feel is right and zip it. When they open their mouths or put pen to paper, it just seems to get worse. Discussion on this should be highly regulated and restricted to intellectual circles with an academic tone. Polemics has not solved a thing. May Allah grant us the etiquette of differing, save us from inflexibility in matters that are religiously flexible, and protect us from timewasting this Ramadan.

Shaykh JJ: 🚨Qiyam Ramadan/Tarawih Note! 1. According to the Maliki School, praying Qiyam Ramadan at home is actually a Sunnah (as long as the person has strong intention to perform it) Moral of the story: praying Qiyam Ramadan at home has it merits! 2. According to Imam Malik, completion of the Quran is not a sunnah of Qiyam Ramadan, and he states that even reading Surah Al-Ikhlas in every Rakah renders the reward. (Mudawwanah) The point of Qiyam is not about numbers, its about how strong your niyyah and sincerity is while performing it as the Hadith states: “ Whoever stands in Ramadan with faith and hope for reward, then his sins of the past are forgiven” Moral of the story: if you're not a hafiz, read whatever you know, even if its the same in every rakah! Its not a problem. 3. According to the Malik School there is no “fixed number” of rakahs in regards to what is “mustahabb” or required. Abi Zayd states in his Risalah that a person prays whatever is bearable for him and he will be rewarded for that. (Al-Risalah). So don’t get caught up in the number of Rakah debates. Focus on the substance of your prayer. Moral of the story: pray the amount of rakahs that is bearable for you, its all reward! 4. The Maliki school accepts that 36 Rakahs, and 20 Rakahs were both established and valid practices of the Salaf in order to make Qiyam (in congregation/jama’ah specifically) for those praying behind the Imam. They also acknowledge that the personal practice of the Prophet(saw) in Qiyam Ramadan was 8 rakahs and performed at home. [I’m highlighting ‘personal practice’ because the Prophet(saw) didn’t enforce or instruct any of the Companions to any fixed set of numbers] This is why the Maliki considered it mustahabb to pray Qiyam Ramadan at home (for those who have strong intentions), while the Imam of the congregation in the mosque prays 20 or 36 in order to make it easier for the congregation. For this reason the Practice of Imam Malik himself, was to pray 8 rakahs at home in accordance to the personal practice of the Prophet(saw), while the Imam lead people in congregation of either 20 or 36 rakahs for ease. Moral of the story: Forget the numbers polemics, 8, 20, and 36 have their perfect and right place of application. 5. Don’t waste time fussing over numbers because the objective of Qiyam Ramadan is about the the quality of the prayer by having strong focused sincerity (ikhlas) , faith (iman), and high hopes and anticipation for reward (ihtisāban). Put you energy and focus there! Bedtime story with CBeebies CBarelwis There lived a certain person in Bareilly Shareef who had very false concepts concerning 'Ulema, Awliyah and Peer-o-Murshid and Mureed relationships. One of his friends, who was on his way to meet Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelwi, asked this person to accompany him and meet this great Scholar. He also suggested that by discussing his false concepts and beliefs with Imam Ahmed Raza Khan, he will be shown the right path. While discussing whether or not to go, that person with the false concepts, saw a vendor selling fresh sweetmeats. He said, “First buy me some sweetmeats then I will go with you.” His friend agreed to buy it for him on the way back home. Nevertherless, after much convincing he agreed to accompany his friend to the house of Imam Ahmed Raza. They entered his house and sat there. A Mureed arrived and brought some sweetmeats. It was the procedure in the court of Imam Ahmed Raza that those persons with beards would get two shares, and those without beards would receive only one share as they were still taken as children. The Mureed who was responsible for distributing the sweetmeats only gave one share to the person who had misconcepts about Awliyah and 'Ulema. Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelwi (Alaihir Rahmah), who was present there and witnessing the entire incident, commanded the Mureed to give that person two shares. The Mureed remarked, “Huzoor! He has no beard. He should get one.” Sayyidi A'la Hadrat Imam Ahmed Raza (Alaihir Rahmah) replied, “Give him two. He desires to have two.” When the person heard this he immediately repented and became the Mureed of the great Imam. His desire was to receive two shares and he realised that Imam Ahmed Raza was even aware of the thoughts in his heart. (It was etched into his face that this guy wanted double halwa. Alahazrat could read his face - and heart. 1+1 = MIRACLE! IP)

Bedtime story with CBeebies CBarelwis Janaab Amjad Ali was a resident of Bhasouri. He was a dedicated Mureed of Sayyidi A'la Hadrat Imam Ahmed Raza (Alaihir Rahmah). Once Amjad Ali went out hunting. While he was hunting, a stray bullet from his rifle accidentally hit a passer-by, killing him. Amjad Ali was later arrested for murder. He was tried and then sentenced passed on him - death by hanging. A few days before his execution, a few members of his family came to visit him. With the mere thought of his execution, they began to weep bitterly. He smiled at them and said, “Go home and do not weep. I will return on the day of my execution. My Peer-o-Murshid, Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelwi (Alaihir Rahmah) has stated that he has released me.” On the night of his execution, his mother went to visit him. She began to weep out of fear as the time was drawing near. But Amjad Ali's faith in the words of his Peer-o-Murshid was very strong. He asked his mother to go home and to stop worrying. He told her that through the Will of Allah Ta'ala, he will return home in a little while to have breakfast with her. Being visibly shaken, she returned home. The time had finally arrived. Amjad Ali was escorted to the gallows to be hanged. The noose was put around his neck. The authorities asked him if he had any final request. Very calmly, he replied, “There is no need to request anything. My time of death has not yet arrived.” The authorities were baffled by his composure. Nevertheless, they decided to proceed with the hanging. As they were about to hang him, they received a telegram stating that due to the crowning of Queen Elizabeth, a certain number of prisoners were being released. Amjad Ali Sahib's name was on that list! He was immediately released. As promised, he went home to have breakfast with his mother. In this miracle of Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelwi (Alaihir Rahmah), not only was Amjad Ali pardoned but, many other prisoners were freed. (Queen Elizabeth (born 1926), pardoned this individual during the lifetime of Alahazrat (died 1921). This is a standard sign of a fabrication according to the Muhaddithun. But according to our Brillo friends, it is a miracle. IP)

Bedtime story with CBeebies CBarelwis Once, a woman came crying to Sayyidi A'la Hadrat Imam Ahmed Raza (Alaihir Rahmah). She reminded him that he had once made Du'a for her to bear a child and through his Du'a a male child was born. The child had now passed away and she could not bear this loss. She cried and begged the Imam to bring the child back to life. Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelwi (Alaihir Rahmah) went to her home. He noticed that the child was lying on a bed and was covered with a sheet. In the meantime, the mother of the child continuously asked him to bring the child back to life. Imam Ahmed Raza (Alaihir Rahmah) removed the sheet from the face of the child, placed his blessed hands over the child's eyes and commanded the child, “Son! Wake up and listen to that which your mother is saying.' All of a sudden, the child began to cry. All those present were astonished. They thanked the great Imam abundantly. He humbly smiled and said, “I did not do anything. He was asleep. All I did was wake him up.” (What humility! The child was actually dead - this is bedtime story is mentioned among Alahazrat's miracles. IP)
