Tensions have reportedly risen along the India-Bangladesh international border in Meghalaya's South West Garo Hills district following an alleged dispute over the acceptance of a man who was reportedly pushed back across the border after being detained by the Border Security Force (BSF).
According to sources, the incident occurred in the Nandir Char sector near Mahendraganj, where a man alleged to be a Bangladeshi national was detained by the BSF after reportedly entering Indian territory illegally through the Meghalaya border.

After nearly 24 hours of sustained search operations involving around 450 personnel of the Manipur Police, CRPF, and Assam Rifles, assisted by sniffer dogs and forensic expert teams, the mortal remains of six persons were recovered this afternoon. The deceased are believed to be among those taken hostage from Leilon Vaiphei on 13 May 2026.
Necessary legal formalities are being carried out by the police, and the investigation is underway.

Manipur: Six Bodies Recovered in Kangpokpi Hostage Search

Manipur: Kuki Farmer Shot Dead in Tamenglong Paddy Field
A Kuki farmer, Haogin Louvum (55), was shot dead around 11:30 AM on June 9, 2026, at Lansan Kuki village, Tamei PS, Tamenglong district. Armed miscreants opened fire on cultivators working along the Imphal-Tamenglong road. Security has been tightened as the incident escalates regional Naga-Kuki ethnic tensions.

i) 01 (one) 0.22 rifle,
ii) 01 (one) local made 9 mm pistol with magazine,
iii) 05 (five) local made CMGs,

v) 1.2 kg of explosives substance and
vi) 03 (three) Baofeng radio sets.

Security forces continue to conduct search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas across districts.
A total of 113 Nakas/Check points were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hills and the valley.
Movement of 260 vehicles carrying essential items along NH-37 has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

On, 9th June 2026, 14 (fourteen) Kuki individuals were formally released following due procedures. The individuals were handed over to Senapati Police and the District Administration by the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of Senapati District.
Upon receipt, all necessary formalities were completed, including proper verification and medical examination of the individuals. Adequate security arrangements were put in place, and the route was properly secured to ensure their safe and expeditious transportation to Taphou Kuki Village. Thereafter, the individuals were handed over to the Chief of Taphou Kuki Village through a duly executed handing-over/taking-over memorandum.
The entire process was conducted peacefully and in a coordinated manner with the cooperation of all stakeholders concerned.

MAJOR DRUG BUST: ASSAM RIFLES FOILS SMUGGLING ATTEMPT IN CHURACHANDPUR
Assam Rifles in coordination with Manipur Police launched a joint operation near Hengkot Village, Churachanpur on 07 June 2026. During the operation, the team intercepted a suspected white Hyundai Creta (MZ01-8922) heading towards Aizawl. A thorough strip search led to the recovery of 184 soap cases containing approximately 2.576 kg of Brown Sugar, with an estimated market value of βΉ3.6 crore. Three drug smugglers were apprehended at the scene. The recovered contraband, vehicle and suspects have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further investigation and legal action.

ONE APPREHENDED, FOREIGN-MADE PISTOL RECOVERED IN CHAMPHAI OPERATION
Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with Champhai Police based on specific intelligence inputs, apprehended one individual involved in illegal arms dealing in the general area of Zote, Champhai District, Mizoram on 08 June 2026. The joint team recovered one 0.32 mm Beretta pistol, one magazine and three live rounds from the individualβs possession. The apprehended person and recovered items were handed over to Champhai Police for further investigation. The operation underscores Assam Riflesβ vigilance and commitment to curbing illegal arms trafficking and maintaining security along the Indo-Myanmar border.
