Manipur: Tensions Skyrocket at Shokvao–New Heaven as Tangkhul Women Block Assam Rifles
A volatile standoff has erupted along NH-202 in the Shokvao–New Heaven area of Ukhrul District. Tangkhul Naga women have launched an intense blockade against the 40 Assam Rifles, completely halting their movement and dismantling a newly constructed bunker.
While locals state the resistance defends indigenous land rights against unauthorized military movements without village authority consent—culminating in women dramatically holding up traditional phaneks to block troops—counter-reports allege the blockade strategically targets the removal of the area's only buffer zone protecting the nearby isolated Kuki village of Chepu Yaolen from militant networks.
The situation remains critical with reported blank firing, burning tires, and women holding overnight vigils under the open sky.
