Pavel Durov was expected to speak about TON (GRAM) at Token2049 Dubai back in April 2026, but the event was postponed.

Ethiopia is a good example to show how telegrams infra and usage is humongous. It also ranks among the countries with the highest number of indexed Telegram channels.
While WhatsApp has a larger user base across Africa, many Ethiopian WhatsApp users also have Telegram accounts, while many Telegram users do not necessarily use WhatsApp.

and after reading this thesis by @marsalscave Iβm starting to see the bigger picture more clearly.
as @wallet put crypto inside Telegram first and proved that the product could work at scale, Gram Wallet is the next step, with a self-custodial money layer built for Telegram itself.
that cuts out the extra step and reduces friction, with direct $GRAM transfers to any Telegram user, while keeping finance right inside chats and channels rather than in a separate app.
