TOKEN2049 Singapore 2026: The World’s Largest Crypto Event Returns to Marina Bay Sands
Pavel Durov was expected to speak about TON (GRAM) at Token2049 Dubai back in April 2026, but the event was postponed.
Many people are now expecting him to speak at the largest crypto gathering on October 7–8.
Nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
Imo, Durov was mainly interested in TOKEN2049 event because he wanted a major stage to announce the MTONGA operation and share his broader vision for Telegram and TON blockchain.
But, since that plan is already in motion and given everything else that is happening, I don’t think he will attend this time.

In Ethiopia, WhatsApp has approximately 14–18 million users, nearly half of the country’s internet users.
While Telegram has ~8 million users in Ethiopia, an unusually large user base compared with most African countries.
Since Telegram has become the ultimate bridge between Web2 and Web3, its core features extend far beyond those of the ordinary messaging platforms.
In Ethiopia, Telegram is more than a messaging app, it is one of the basic and highly used tech platform in the country.
Telegram is widely used for news, government communication, communities, education, e-commerce, digital services, Mini Apps, AI and more.
Ethiopia is a good example to show how telegrams infra and usage is humongous. It also ranks among the countries with the highest number of indexed Telegram channels.
While WhatsApp has a larger user base across Africa, many Ethiopian WhatsApp users also have Telegram accounts, while many Telegram users do not necessarily use WhatsApp.
