The Fallen Banana Bud Finial of Shwemawdaw Pagoda (1940s) Due to the earthquake that struck in 1917, the banana-bud section beneath the hti (umbrella finial) of the Shwemawdaw Pagoda in Bago collapsed onto the platform. Royal Capital City Designs of the Konbaung Dynasty Shwebo, Amarapura, and Mandalay were laid out in square-shaped designs. In Ava, the city walls of the Second Ava Period can be seen, built as an expansion of the original royal city established during the First Ava Period. The walls feature a distinctive stepped, zigzag pattern. A Police Officer’s Hat and Badge from Myanmar’s Independence Era (1950s) U Khin Maung Maung, the Chief of Police in Yangon, served as the Criminal Officer of Pyapon during the colonial period. He later served as the Chairman of the Transportation Subcommittee during the Sixth Buddhist Council. In the photo below, the man wearing glasses is Chief of Police U Khin Maung Maung. Christ Church Cathedral Donated by King Mindon (c. 1860s) Photograph taken by British military officer Arthur F. Laughton during King Mindon's reign. The church housed a baptismal font sent as a gift by Queen Victoria of England. Built in 1869 in medieval European style using timber, it was provided to Dr. Marks alongside a mission residence and a royal school. The racecourse, now the Shwe Man Taung Golf Club, was built near the Mandalay Hill. It was once featured in a family travel documentary during 1930s. The Shwethalyaung Buddha at Pegu (now Bago) in 1881. The Buddha image which is believed to be several centuries old, was 'lost'i in 1757 after Alaungpaya's sack and abandonment of the Mon capital Pegu.
