Here’s a utopian photo of the socialist dream: getting into an East German Trabantβ€”meaning β€œsatellite,” and named after the Soviet Sputnik. In East Germany’s socialist, centrally planned economy, there was no competition. The government decided exactly how many cars would be built, what they would look like, and how much they would cost. Because demand always vastly exceeded supply, the state could sell every Trabant it made, no matter how outdated or poorly assembled it was. While the Western automotive industry was rapidly innovating with crumple zones, turbochargers, and electronic fuel injection, the East German state forced its citizens to pay upfront and wait 12 to 15 years for a car built around 1930s technology: a two-stroke engine. The Stasi (Secret Police) background checks were required just to get on the waiting list. Because the waiting list was so agonizingly long, a bizarre economic phenomenon occurred: a used Trabant was worth more than a brand-new one. If you managed to get a new Trabant after 12 years, you could drive it off the lot and immediately sell it on the black market for up to twice its retail price. People paid a massive premium simply to skip the 12-year line. When the Berlin Wall finally fell in 1989, East Germans flooded into West Germany, and thousands simply abandoned their Trabants by the side of the road, choosing to walk away from a symbol of 30 years of low-powered vehicles and economic stagnation.

πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ Within the AfD, there are dreams of annexing the Sudetenland, part of Italy, and Alsace-Lorraine. Members of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), the German far-right party, are increasingly sending "irredentist signals" toward regions that once belonged to the German-speaking world but are now located in other European countries. In 2018, the AfD group in the Bundestag questioned the government about the work of the "cultural advisor for West Prussia, Posen, Central Poland, Volhynia and Galicia", in a series of questions where it called for institutional funding for associations of expellees. In November 2019, Stephan Protschka, AfD member of the Bundestag, helped finance a memorial in Bytom paying "tribute to the German soldiers who fell during the First and Second World Wars, to the fighters of the self-defense forces and the Freikorps, and to the oppressed and murdered East Germans." In 2024, Alice Weidel stated that she had always refused to use the Polish name, GΕ‚ubczyce, of LeobschΓΌtz, the hometown of her father's family, in the current Opole Voivodeship. https://legrandcontinent.eu/fr/2026/10/05/au-sein-de-lafd-on-reve-dannexer-les-sudetes-une-partie-de-litalie-et-l-alsace-lorraine/ https://archive.ph/UgcN6

The Yemeni Armed Forces renew their warning to all employees, including experts, engineers, and workers, in all Saudi oil facilities, against being present in places that represent targets for our forces so as not to endanger their lives, whether those that have been targeted before or others. They also renew their warning to aviation companies in the airports and airspace, and to travelers and workers in them, that were previously announced.

πŸ’’ Trump admitted that the US may have gone too far in its confrontation with Iran πŸ”ΉPerhaps we've gone too far in eliminating leaders, because now we're dealing with God knows who. πŸ”ΉFrankly, we're having a hard time figuring out who to do business with. I think we've gone too far. πŸ”ΉWe could have stopped at stage one. Stages two and two and a half were probably too much, the American leader said. Subscribe @NewResistance

"We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well." Katie Zacharia on future travel: "You can expect more of the midterm blitz. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸŒ Trump’s ambassador headaches pile up as Guilfoyle draws scrutiny in Greece US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle is facing calls for a State Department review over her conduct in Athens, MS Now reported. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen raised concerns about Guilfoyle’s alleged β€œinappropriate uses of an official position,” including repeatedly bringing lobbyist Christos Marafatsos into meetings with foreign officials and promoting business interests tied to one of his clients.
πŸ’¬ Rep. Gregory Meeks went further: β€œIf these reports are accurate, Ambassador Guilfoyle is unfit to represent the United States abroad and should be removed from her position.”
Guilfoyle’s controversy adds to a growing list of diplomatic headaches for Trump: US ambassadors have also sparked disputes in South Africa, Belgium, France, Poland, Canada, Italy and India. An embassy official in Greece rejected the criticism, saying Guilfoyle β€œcontinues to follow all State Department ethical guidelines.” πŸ‘ Substack | Chat | @geopolitics_prime
