The Art of Giving Up: When Letting Go is the Right Choice (Speaking from my experience of giving all 6 attempts) not asking you to quit or stay in prep but just think of it this way, especially if like me it was your 6th attempt! Take time before you think anything!
In a world that glorifies perseverance, giving up can feel like failure, but sometimes, it's the bravest thing we can do. Learning when to let go is as important as knowing when to fight, and understanding this art can lead to growth, peace, and new beginnings.
š¹Why Sometimes Giving Up is Important
1. Not Every Fight is Worth Winning
In "The Gambler" (2014), Mark Wahlbergās character reflects: "The wise man knows when to walk away from the table."
Sometimes, stubbornness keeps us in situations that are not meant for us. Walking away can protect our time, energy, and well-being.
2. Room for Growth and New Beginnings
Paulo Coelho writes in The Alchemist: āIf what one finds is made of pure matter, it will never spoil. And one can always come back. If what you had found was only a moment of light, like the explosion of a star, you would find nothing on your return.ā
Giving up on certain paths creates space for new opportunities and the discovery of better, more aligned dreams.
3. Avoiding the Sunk Cost Trap
Movies like La La Land show us that love, dreams, and ambitions can change. Both characters realize that clinging to an ideal version of their shared dreams would hold them back from personal fulfillment. The courage to say goodbye is sometimes necessary to let each person grow.
4. Protecting Mental Health
In The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck* by Mark Manson, he argues: āThe key to a good life is not giving a fck about more; itās giving a fck about less.ā
We canāt do everything. Holding on to toxic relationships, dead-end jobs, or unrealistic goals drains our energy and joy. Letting go allows us to focus on what truly matters.
5. Acceptance vs. Resistance
As Tyler Durden says in Fight Club, "Itās only after weāve lost everything that weāre free to do anything."
Resisting change often prolongs suffering. Embracing loss and endings gives us the freedom to rebuild ourselves on new terms.
š¹How to Know When to Let Go
Ask Yourself: Is this worth the emotional and mental cost?
š¹Reflect: Are you holding on out of habit, fear, or ego?
š¹Reframe Giving Up: What if this isnāt giving up but growing out of something?
š¹The Beauty of Giving Upš¹
Sometimes, giving up isnāt defeat but redirection. Like a river that flows around obstacles, life takes unexpected turns. In Japanese culture, thereās a saying: āLet go or be dragged.ā When we release our grip on what no longer serves us, we open ourselves to new possibilities.
Giving up is not the opposite of trying. Itās choosing which battles are worth fighting and accepting that some dreams, relationships, and paths are best left behind. In the words of Elizabeth Gilbert from Eat, Pray, Love: āYou need to learn how to select your thoughts just the same way you select your clothes every day. This is a power you can cultivate. If you want to control things in your life so bad, work on the mind. Thatās the only thing you should be trying to control.ā
Letting go isn't weakness. It's grace. Sometimes, surrender is the most powerful step we can take.

Needed to ask you this, and talk to you as a friend. Ekdum dilse. Are You Preparing to Clear just prelims or Become an Officer?āļø
Dear friends,
As November rolls in, Iāve noticed a familiar pattern: panic starts setting in, and many of you begin focusing solely on Prelims. While I understand the pressure, let me remind you of something Iāve learned from my own journey.
Trust me, Iāve cleared Prelims three times (and here now as a live example in front of you post exhausting my attempts- LEARN FROM ME!), and I can tell you this: If your vision is limited to just crossing the Prelims hurdle, youāre not preparing to become an officerāyouāre preparing to stay in a cycle of trying. ā ļø
Hereās a harsh reality: It doesnāt give you a service. As your friend, your big brother, let me ask you:
Are you preparing to become an officer, Or are you just chasing the feeling of clearing Prelims to update your status to friends and family and feel momentarily proud?
If you truly want to see your name in the final list, hereās what you need to do:
1. Donāt Ignore Essay and Ethics: These two papers are your differentiators in Mains. The earlier you start working on them, the better your performance will be.
2. Optional is Your Backbone: Optional carries a massive weight in Mains. Half-baked preparation wonāt work. A strong optional can turn the tide in your favor. So, donāt push it aside for Prelims. Balance both!
Yes, Prelims is important. But itās only a stepping stone. Donāt lose sight of the bigger picture. The road to success isnāt about panicāitās about consistent, well-rounded preparation. Let November be the month where you reset your focus. Remember: youāre not here to clear Prelims. Youāre here to become an officer who makes a difference. Write it down somewhere for everytime you feel panicky! Be Calm like Dhoni, please please don't let anxiety dictate your decisions.
šStay strong, stay disciplined, Iām here for you every step of the way. Letās build the right mindset and work toward the bigger goal together.

As per this system, the land was surveyed and classified into 4 categories on the basis of fertility.

1.Polaj land : most fertile, Cultivation every year, tax collection is maximum.

2. Parati land:
Left fallow for one year to regain fertility.
Tax payment is only in the year of Cultivation.

3. Cachar land:
Left fallow for 2 years to regain fertility.
Taxation only in the year of Cultivation.
ā
4. Banjar land:
Left fallow for 5 or more years to regain fertility.
Least amount of tax is collected from this land.
