| 4 | The syllabus nobody talks about
There are two syllabuses in this exam. One is printed by UPSC. The other is unwritten, and it is harder.
The unwritten syllabus is learning to sit alone in a room for ten hours and not lose your mind. It is watching your school friends buy cars while you calculate whether you can afford one more year of this. It is answering "beta, ab kya plan hai" at every family function with a smile that costs you something. It is failing an attempt and getting up the next morning to revise the same Polity notes, knowing nobody will ever count that morning as courage. But it was.
No coaching teaches this syllabus. No test series evaluates it. Yet every single person who clears this exam has passed it first.
You think you are only studying Geography, History, Economics. You are wrong. You are studying how to lose small battles without losing the war. You are studying how to believe in a result that has no guarantee, which is the hardest act of faith a young person can perform.
One day you will sit in a position of responsibility and a broken person will walk into your office. You will understand them instantly because you were once invisible too, and you remember exactly how it felt.
