Today, I spoke with one of my former colleagues. It was his birthday, and suddenly I realised that an entire year had passed since the last time I wished them a happy birthday. A whole year… yet it feels like yesterday.
He told me, “Everyone here still remembers you although you worked there shortly. We’re waiting for you to come back. Our doors are always open for you.”
I don’t know why, but those words stayed with me.
The truth is, I never dreamed of building a life far away from my country. I genuinely want to live at home, to be close to my people, and to contribute to the place that made me who I am.
But sometimes life pushes you in directions you never intended to take. You leave not because you love your home any less, but you have to do this to prevent someone else from doing so regardless you wish it or not.
For many people, living abroad may look like a dream — something exciting, something to aspire to.
For me, mostly it feels more like a burden I have to carry.
