End your IELTS Speaking part 2 Like a pro ​Avoid ending your answer with weak fillers: ​❌ That's it. ​❌ That's all. ​❌ I've finished. ​❌ So yeah... ​❌ This is the end. ​Instead, wrap up your response with a meaningful, memorable conclusion: ​✅ "And that is precisely why I respect my cousin so much." ​✅ "All in all, it was a trip to Khiva that I will never forget" ​✅ "Hopefully, I'll have the opportunity to see this building in person one day" ​however, if the examiner interrupts you before you can conclude because your two minutes are up, don't panic! You can still achieve a high score without the ending. Just ensure you never say awkward exit phrases ("Men bo'ldim / Я как бы всё") if you run out of things to say before the time is up @ieltsboyko

In IELTS Listening, pay close attention to cohesive devices. In many cases, they can help you eliminate wrong answers and identify distractions. Look out for contrast and correction signals such as: • but • yet • however • though • although • even though • whereas • while • by contrast • in contrast • conversely • on the contrary • alternatively • despite • in spite of • even if • regardless of • rather than • instead These linking words often signal that the information mentioned just before or around them is not the final answer. So, don't fall for the first piece of information you hear. Listen for the linker and wait for the information that actually answers the question. @ieltsboyko

We can see seven paragraphs in this passage and ten headings on the next page. I'd start with paragraph B as it has only three sentences, and it's not hard to understand that the fifth heading should be chosen there. Then I'd read paragraph F which is a bit longer but not as big as other paragraphs. The right time, minute and other details help me to choose heading I. G paragraph would go third, and answer VIII is relevant there. So now I am ready to go to huge paragraphs but I have already found three easy answers, which means only seven headings remain in the list. Try it too: Small paragraphs first, big paragraphs last. This method helped me to get band 9.0 in reading within 30 minutes. @ieltsboyko

When working with Matching Headings questions, start with the shorter paragraphs. You can NEVER use the same heading more than once, so once you identify the correct headings for the shorter paragraphs, you’ll have fewer options to choose from for the longer ones. This can save you a lot of time and make the whole process much simpler. However, if you work through the paragraphs in order, you’re highly likely to exhaust yourself, waste valuable time, and make more mistakes. Choose the order yourself. Don’t just go with the flow. @ieltsboyko

Don’t give a general introduction in Speaking Part 1. Examiner: How often do you use a computer? Candidate: Computers play a crucial role in the lives of people today. It’s hard to imagine anyone without a laptop or desktop computer. I use it every day ❌❌❌ This answer is totally incoherent. The candidate is talking about computers first instead of answering the actual question. In Part 1, answer the question directly. Don’t go around the bush. Examiner: How often do you use a computer? Candidate: Every single day! You see, most of my homework is given online, so I gotta download lots of files sent by my teacher on a daily basis. ✅✅✅ The examiner asked “How often?” - give them a frequency first, then add a short explanation. @ieltsboyko

Don’t repeat the information from your Task 1 overview in your main body paragraphs. ❌❌❌ Overall, China experienced the largest increase in sales during the period, while Germany and France saw significant declines. To begin with, China witnessed the most significant rise... As for Germany and France, their sales dropped dramatically... ❌❌❌ The main trends have already been mentioned in the overview, so there’s no need to repeat them in the body paragraphs. Instead, state the trend in the overview and provide the evidence for that trend in the main body: ✅✅✅ Overall, China experienced the largest increase in sales during the period, while Germany and France saw significant declines. To begin with, China’s sales stood at 41% in the first given year... As for Germany and France, their sales initially made up 21% and 14%, respectively. ✅✅✅ • Overview = main trends • Body paragraphs = figures and evidence This makes your Task 1 response more concise and avoids unnecessary repetition. @ieltsboyko

Suffer and Struggle are NOT synonyms!!! These two words mean different things: Struggle: An active effort. You fight to reach a goal, learn a new skill, or fix a hard problem. It builds strength and brings growth. Suffer: A passive state. You feel hurt, sad, or sick without a clear way out. It drains your energy and leaves you feeling weak or helpless. Action vs. Pain Struggle has a purpose. You move forward and try to win. Suffering happens when pain has no control, no support, and no hope for change @ieltsboyko

Why is IELTS Speaking recorded? The recording is needed in case the candidate's performance needs to be re-marked. What if a candidate doesn’t know anything about the topic in Part 2? The topics are carefully chosen to reflect common experiences, so candidates don’t need special knowledge to talk about them. It is extremely unlikely that a candidate would be unable to talk about the topic given. Does the candidate have to write notes in Part 2? No, making notes is an option available to the candidate. Some candidates prefer just to think about what to say whereas others find making notes helps them to organise their ideas and to keep talking. Is it a good idea for a candidate to learn short speeches about his/her town or job by heart? No, s/he should listen carefully to the examiner and just respond to the question. Learnt speeches usually miss the point of the question, and may adversely affect pronunciation @ieltsboyko
